Small Number of Shoppers Unable to Access Amazon

Some people are reporting they can't access Amazon, an intermittent problem that has been occurring since Friday or longer. On Down Detector, people are reporting a message "ERR_SOCKET_ NOT _CONNECTED" when trying to access the site - and some are blaming it on Google's Chrome browser.

One user said they believed it might be due to a problem with an ISP's DNS servers in Washington.

A check of Twitter on Saturday revealed numerous reports - but nothing to indicate an outage. Amazon responded to several of the tweets on Saturday saying they saw no issues. Of the five tweets we saw come in during a 3-hour period on Saturday afternoon, one customer followed up to say they were successful in accessing the site after rebooting their computer.

We gave it some time, but reports continued to come in to Down Detector on Sunday. We also did a quick check of Twitter going back as Sunday afternoon when a couple of reports had come in - one customer said they had been unable to access the site but eventually they were able to get to Amazon. An Amazon rep advised them to update their browser.

This does not appear to be a widespread issue, but it is becoming a long-lasting one. It seems these days, clearing your cache or trying another browser is standard operating procedure when you have problems - if only all shoppers were techies.

This on top of their shipping service being wrong or unavailable most of last week.

I had trouble connecting to Amazon and I always try another browser when something like that happens, namely Firefox. That didn't work either. I eventually connected with Chrome. It doesn't really take a ''techie'' to figure that out, just a brain!

This has been happening all last week too. Mainly images showing up as broken and then working 5 minutes later. Occasional page not loading. Looks like a DNS issue of some sort maybe related to the west coast.
