Amazon Finally Launches Marketplace in Australia

Visiting today brings up more than digital goods and Amazon hardware - after weeks of rumors about the launch date, Amazon Marketplace has finally expanded to Australia.

Back in October, an Amazon spokesperson told EcommerceBytes it had 500 third-party sellers registered to sell on its marketplace there. The following month, it held a seller summit in Sydney where hundreds of people attended.

Amazon Australia Country Manager Rocco Braeuniger and Head of Amazon Marketplace in Australia Fabio Bertola gave attendees guidance on how to take their businesses to millions of customers across Australia and around the world via Amazon Marketplace.

It's possible Amazon is rolling out the new marketplace in Australia in stages, since there's been no official announcement, but right now, it's visible to us from our Boston-area USA office. (Update: checking Twitter, it seems to have launched there about an hour ago or so....This blogger has been tweeting.)

The home page features a video showing packages being sorted in its fulfillment center and delivered to a happy little girl, with the tag line: "Now shop millions of products on"
