Etsy, like other marketplaces and retailers, worries about competing with Amazon's quick delivery - even though many of the items offered through Etsy are unique or may be made to order or personalized.
Etsy is now testing a change to its search engine by adding filters that allow shoppers to exclude items from search results that take longer than 1 or 1-3 days to ship:
"To help shoppers find items that ship quickly, we’re testing new search filters for items with short processings times, including those with 1-day and 1-3 day processing times. During the test, only some shoppers on Etsy will see the new filters."
That's not the only testing Etsy is doing as the holiday shopping season ratchets up (Amazon, eBay, and retailers launched holiday marketing campaigns on Wednesday). Etsy will be testing other ways of highlighting items that ship quickly, offer free shipping, or are on sale, it announced.
Another change it has already committed to testing in the coming weeks "a new design and placement for shipping information on the listing page. During the experiment, shoppers will be able to see both the price and processing time for items higher up on the page. During the test, a percentage of shoppers on Etsy will see the new design."
- Is it a good idea for Etsy to highlight shipping time for hurried holiday shoppers?
- Is it a good idea to run tests now and in the coming weeks?
