Outcry over Etsy Billing for New Pattern Service

I imagine the NY Attorney General's Office is the best place to file a complaint. You can get their Phone number or file  on line.

There is no way this will be deemed as OK by any authorities. the whole way Etsy handled this stinks. I look forward to seeing the CEO and top Employees being given what they deserve. Orange Jump Suits for Interstate Theft.

Agree 100% with White Rabbit. Etsy's corporate office is in Brooklyn, so if Etsy will not immediately reverse that charge, file a complaint with the Attorney General. Etsy is starting to become eBay 2.0 with all the glitches and bugs.

A NY transit company double charged my daughter's credit card and would not refund their error. Is this the new money grab? I am sure it is not confined to NY. It takes gonads to blatantly steal from customers. Whether these errors are intentional or not, the transit company, Etsy or any company needs to be held responsible. The regulators need to step in.

There was a consumer advocate a few years back that won a lawsuit against Walmart? after being overcharged a few cents on a purchase. I don't know if this was a cash or card purchase. If this overcharging or false billing isn't stopped, companies with access to accounts will become bolder and bolder with minimum consequences.

This was a total scam, and etsy will pay dearly for it,

They scammed us on one of our three accounts with automatic direct checkout opt-in, and would NOT reverse it back to stand alone paypal like our Other accounts, we IMEDIATELY CLOSED that account, and in return, we REMOVED direct checkout on both our remaining accounts, and NO LONGER purchase shipping labels thru etsy, FU etsy

I'm in the UK and when I signed up for the Pattern site I was told it was $15.  As of the 1st of June us in the UK are being charged VAT (20%) on top of all charges including Pattern site, so it makes it over $18.  I wasn't aware of this when I signed up, so I'm not very happy.

Notify your credit/debit card company or PayPal immediately that you didn't order this service want a credit.

For some reason that I fail to see this problem will not affect Etsy at all.  Sellers are devoted to the site no matter what Etsy does to them. Etsy knows there is no place else for them to go that is even close to Etsy.  This too shall pass.

We have values, and will not tolerate this one bit, it's not the dollar amount here it's the principle,

if someone asks me for a dollar I would not hesitate to give it to them, if someone is trying to steal a dollar from me, it's pretty much over.

etsy is walking a very fine line.

they have resorted to stealing as they are no capable of making money legally in a morally correct manner.

IF anyone can do so without being censored, these types of Etsy Faux Pas need to be added to "financial pages' articles right below the stock price. I have noticed, though that most wind up being deleted out by ?past friends? of Etsy.

My comments are removed on a far too often to be coincidence basis.

This stock is being worked, and pumped by someone.

Enron was everybody's darling, at one point, too.

I've never sold on etsy and bought one thing and they annoyed me with constant emails that day trying to get me to sign up, for what I don't know. I wanted to buy embroidery floss, not make a life commitment to the place. That being said, I HATE all these places that give you a Free trial and then start charging you without so much as a reminder notice that your free period is running out. If they can send a one time buyer multiple emails in one day, they certainly can send emails to their sellers when their accounts are about to go from free to paying. But they won't. Etsy and every other company that uses this tactic don't send out reminders because this is the way that they can make oodles of money for 'free' (no service given) and they hope no one will catch on. An ethical company will send email reminders.

My url company does this (Hostway BTW with decent prices and easy to use set up for a new url) and yet at the same time I get those notices from Domain Services billing me for my url at 4-5 times the rate I pay to Hostway. Their emails say that I might lose my url, etc. This is a blatant money grab and I hate companies that do this. Either they don't send out reminders or they send ones out that they shouldn't.

All venues need to get themselves a moral highground to maintain. I would much prefer that to these lying, cheating scamming, in the limelight companies. Sounds like Etsy might end up with a black eye from this that they very much deserve!

They have very strong ties with Chinese manufacturers and have quietly bought up over 10% of Etsy and are continuing to buy.

Why? I think simple Logic will tell you where they are going. They can afford to buy Etsy in full if the owners of the stock are willing to sell. I assume if they owned Etsy we would need to speak Chinese to sell there.

Etsy and ebay - no diff. Both dishonest. Probably be a class action suit. Etsy will pay, however, sellers will only get a check for 2 cents.  Lawyers win....

Instead of looking for ways to improve companies and sellers etc.. they prefer to focus on how to steal monies.
Amazon just kept doing it's thing (not always on the up and up)and they flew past ebay. Should have been the other way around. Poor management and greed was ebays downfall. Etsy will be a site of the past very shortly. Like ebay - no sales to speak of.

No way etsy had a 2 part agreement, before it setup a subscription to pattern, sellers were Automatically signed up for it with a single click to simply view info. bs, etsy

We are currently looking at etsy, with a microscope and if we see even one cent out of place, we will pull our two remaining shops, regardless of current sales, and be done with these idiots, just like ebay, they mean very little to our overall business.

So what does their response mean? Too bad so sad, you won't be refunded? They must be getting pretty desperate to figure out how to make money after so many shop's sales tanked in May.
This company is more and more dishonest by the day. Smart sellers should be working on an exit strategy.
