Etsy sellers can now launch their own ecommerce stores that integrate with their Etsy shops. The marketplace announced Pattern by Etsy, which costs $15/month and comes with unlimited storage.
"Turn your Etsy shop into your own website with Pattern - Create a custom site in minutes," the site explains. The compelling value to sellers: "Every listing you add to your Etsy shop will automatically be added to your Pattern site, with no additional listing fees."
Sellers can manage their Etsy shop and their Pattern site from the same place - inventory syncs automatically, an important feature for sellers of one-of-a-kind items (no selling an item on one channel that has already sold on the other).
Here are some key features:
Payment processing: Buyers can check out and pay just like they do from your Etsy shop. The transaction fee's the same too - just 3.5%.
Custom domains: Get the URL you've always wanted or connect your Pattern site to one you already own.
Data to nerd out on: Access abundant stats and analytical tools to keep your business growing.
Made for mobile: Your site will always look nice, no matter the device.
No storage limits: Add all the awesome you'd like - there's plenty of room for it.
The concept of a marketplace helping sellers build their own storefront isn't new; eBay acquired ProStores, Amazon launched Webstore - but neither one survived. eBay had always been ambivalent about helping its sellers list off-eBay, and Amazon found Webstore to be an unnecessary distraction. (Interestingly, eBay chose to recommend sellers migrate to Bigcommerce, while Amazon recommended their Webstore sellers migrate to Shopify.)
With Etsy Pattern, there's a tighter integration than with ProStores (it's not clear that sellers can add a listing to Pattern directly without first posting it to their Etsy Shop), and the company is striving to bring more sources of revenue to shareholders.
