The Intimate Relationship between Amazon and Customers

Jeff Bezos may be in love with Amazon's version of Siri, and he's not alone. The CEO told investors last week that the voice of the Echo personal assistant has inspired proposals.

"Alexa may be Amazon's most loved invention yet - literally - with over 250,000 marriage proposals from customers and counting," he said.

On a more serious note, Bezos continued, "And she's just getting better. Because Alexa's brain is in the cloud, we can easily and continuously add to her capabilities and make her more useful - wait until you see some of the surprises the team is working on now."

Amazon already knows what customers like and don't like through their shopping behavior and with Netflix, their viewing behavior. Despite knowing what products, books, music, and movies to suggest to customers, it has so far managed to do so without being too creepy. And with today's consumer, convenience seems to outweigh concerns about privacy.

It's clear from Bezos's comment that Amazon is listening to your conversations with its device and tabulating the data. What will Amazon be able to do with that data? And will it help them succeed in ecommerce?

It may be that Amazon is getting to know you better than your significant other, pillow talk and all.

Getting intimate with a inanimate object.

Umm to many dangers here. Think I will stay with the warm body.

Getting intimate or spying? Who knew that big brother would be a "female" named Alexa.

I equate this technology to someone coming into your home and going through all of your personal possessions and monitoring your behavior without your knowledge 24/7.

Despite the fact that the article states that it is not creepy, it is. With me, convenience does not outweigh privacy and it never will.

No Siri, No Alexa, & No Cortana

I don't need a computer gathering data and telling me what I need or want. . .

And  this is  WHY  there will NEVER be anything  like  this in  my  house.  NEVER.

IF  I  wanted a creepy  stalker  watching  me---all  I  would  need to do  would be  make  certain  FB  posts  or  post  certain  pics  on the interwebs.

I  do--not.  I  do not need a robot  to re-order  toilet  paper  or  to  watch and tabulate  my  every  move.  And  if ANYONE  thinks  these--things--are NOT watching you--if--IF==they are not today--they WILL BE.  Tomorrow.

I Don't do Facebook, Twitter, or Alexa but I do Apple phone and Microsoft windows and google.  All of which also track you and know where you are every second of the day...Time to join the Privacy Advocate groups that are out there...

Its a great time to be a monopolist.  Our impotent government doesn't give a hair about the individual or his well-being...The behemoth companies treat us like the numbers and data we are to them.  Opportunities for self-employment have disappeared at a harrowing rate.  Our government has helped the small businesses disappear in this country at an amazing rate.  Future work will consist of government menial jobs and Corporate carrot-chasing jobs.  All which will be dead_ends.

Anyone believe "all this information and data collecting will never be used against you"?

@bitbybit--IF  we DON'T  think  it  will be used against  us--either one on one  or  as an aggregate--we  are  blind.  I am sure it is ALREADY  being  tabulated  and used==if  for nothing more  at  this point  than  to point  us  towards  what  they THINK  we  want  to  buy.  This  is not  terribly  new--it's  just  bigger  numbers  and  the ability  to  be more  specific  and  also  to  focus  on  one  person  vs  many.  And  to  share  that  data  with  other  agencies--many of  whom  will NOT  have  our  best  interests  at  heart.  And that's WITHOUT  counting   hacking  into  that  data.  That's  another "Up and  comint"  profession--getting  that  data  unlocked  thru  external  means.

Sad  new  world.
