USPS Expects Double-Digit Growth in Holiday Package Volume

The USPS is projecting a double-digit increase in package volume this holiday season, seemingly great news for online sellers.

The Postal Service also expects the busiest day for Mailing holiday greeting cards and packages to be Monday, December 19, 2016. And the busiest day for delivering cards and packages is expected to be Thursday, December 22nd.

Another factoid: Over 3 million customers will skip the trip to the Post Office and use Click-N-Ship to mail packages, it predicted.

So how will the USPS handle the increase in volume? It plans to hire between 35,000 - 40,000 seasonal workers to process and deliver holiday cards and packages. That compares to 29,000 in 2015.

Here are some handy Holiday Mail-By Dates for Domestic Services:

The Postal Service recommends customers in the U.S. observe the following mailing and shipping deadlines to ensure that deliveries are made in time for Christmas:

December 15: USPS Retail Ground
December 20: First-Class Mail
December 21: Priority Mail
December 23: Priority Mail Express

Are you seeing an increase in sales from holiday shoppers? And is your shipping station and fulfillment processes ready for an increase in sales?

We could careless as we are on the yearly count down to closing our 5 stores until Jan 7. Just waiting for Nov 15 and we are don't and out of here. Everyone have a good holiday season and don't let Ebay get to much of your money. And remember no whining when they do.

Delivery is already slowing way down. I have 12 late delivery issues I have reported and here is the worse part - The post office is doing NOTHING. In past years someone tried to find the package and within about 3 days, it would get moving. Now, I am getting excuses, no one will call the hub, I am being told that first class takes 3-4 weeks to PR, and also that I have to either file a claim on a priority package as they will not even look and I need to make an extra step of going to a missing mail claim request where they will look for open and damaged mail. Now all these different steps and excuses for mail sitting there, some for over 3 weeks now.
It is going to be a really terrible holiday mailing season if this keeps up and unfortunately looks like a whole lot of lost packages in our future!

Interesting to read the comments of isolated delayed packages.  I recently completed a TNT study for one of higher volume shipper. For a 3 month period that included about 300,000 Priority Mail packages arrived within standard TNT at over 96%.
