eBay Markets Valet and Hatchimals in Latest Email

It's always interesting to open eBay emails to see what products and which sellers they are promoting. In today's email, the company featured its consignment selling service front and center. "Let the experts sell for you: Find eBay Valet at 1,600+ FedEx Office locations" with a link to a directory where recipients can find a location.

I've also noticed eBay emails have been heavily promoting the bookseller BetterWorldBooks lately, and that seller also got prominent placement in today's email.

Farther down today's email, there's a section called "What's trending on eBay" and the first item caught my eye: Hatchimals. "Toy maker Spin Master just hatched a new toy that industry experts are predicting will be one of the hottest items this holiday season. Kids play with the interactive touch technology to get the egg..." and it links to a page on eBay featuring the toys for sale. (For the record, there were 388 listings when I checked.)

Also trending, the Google Pixel XL, according to eBay, which also links to "See more trends" on this page.

It seems like a sound approach to encourage people to unload unwanted goods to put more money in their PayPal accounts so they can shop on eBay. What do you think? And what are the hot products you're seeing for the holiday shopping season?

Ebay is a bore.
Because of Ebay's High Take Rate, the offerings are over priced and limited.
In the vast expanse of America, is an untapped treasure trove.
Until and New Reasonably Priced Venue is established, people will opt to throw these things away rather than waste huge amounts of time for a minuscule or negative return.

''It seems like a sound approach to encourage people to unload unwanted goods to put more money in their Pay Pal accounts so they can shop on eBay.''

Well, ya know, it WAS a sound idea.  Worked great.  I know because I was once one of the thousands of consignment based sellers did this exact same thing, providing a valuable service to the item owners as well, who had LOCAL nationwide outlets to rely upon and interact with, and who then ALSO bought on eBay.

In fact it was such a sound and profitable venture, that whole franchises grew, selling millions upon millions of dollars worth of valuable used, antique and collectible items, connecting eager buyers and ephemera collectors worldwide.

And then they desruptively innovated it all and decimated this unique and diverse community in favor of mass foreign-made trinket promotion, and willful (and inept) suppression of that marketplace.  In fact, I was once told by eBay in no uncertain terms that perhaps this business model was flawed there and I should consider abandoning it.  How's THAT for 'stellar' customer service folks?

Well, this in turn not only completely alienated that seller base - who were also avid eBay buyers - but also the marketplace buyers of those items AND the owners of those items who will never again trust this cesspool of a venue.

Moreover, those actions also impacted the localities where those businesses were based, causing increased unemployment, loss of local tax revenue and economic disruption to the communities and businesses supporting those folks who's lives were enriched by this form of trade.

And now they want to trot out this 'service', conducted and presumably managed with the compentence we've seen so much evidence for, and in complete contradiction to their prior claims of never seeking to compete with their sellers incidentally.

A 'good idea'?  No.  An unethically sickening horror story.

'Tis the season for that, I guess.

Betterworldbooks is one of the worst booksellers, they barely  describ theor books and ship them with no protection.  I'm sure that the only reason their business succeeds I'd that their stock is 100% donated.
