Looking for Stories on How You Selected a Store Designer

I've been getting inquiries from readers who want to set up their own store independent of online marketplaces. We have a chart of some of the established storefront hosting services (where you can also rate them and leave a review).

One reader who said she was looking to leave eBay due to its returns policy (she sells skincare products) sounded desperate to find someone she could hire and trust to help her set up and design a new store of her own.

Have you ever outsourced your webstore design? How did you find someone whom you could trust to do a good job?

Or, do you have to be chief cook, bottle washer, and website designer on top of everything else you do? Outsourcing versus do-it-yourself is a question every small business owner faces. We'd like to hear your experiences and any lessons you learned along the way.

I have done this for a handful of customers who have located me via word of mouth, but this is a small part of my business.  I have to vet customers very carefully.  If I were to log into a customer's account to work on their store and provide templates, I risk cross-contamination for my other customers if their eBay account were to become restricted or even terminated.
