Why the Redesign at Amazon Seller Central?

By: Ina Steiner

Sponsored Link

Have you encountered the changes at Amazon this week? The company redesigned Seller Central, the back-end where sellers manage their orders.

Some sellers feel the new design is easier to read and simpler, while others feel it's much harder to read and requires them to scroll down the page to see all elements.

One comment we heard from several sellers: why tweak the design elements on Seller Central when there are other areas that need improving that are more important.

We review the changes in Wednesday's Newsflash. Let us know what you think of the new Seller Central. Does it make your life easier? Will you get used to the changes?

And tell us what changes you'd like to see that take priority over design changes.

I don't know what to make of it yet myself, it seems to work alright so far.

Only time will tell what bugs there are to deal with.

Sales have tanked to the worst in 2 years 80% drop off. I'm convinced it
was while they integrated this new page.

I'm actually selling more on ebay now
first time in 2 years

Polite company does not allow me to fully address what I think of the ongoing (it appears)page redesigns with no increase in or new functionally of Seller Central pages.

More up and down scrolling as things have been spaced out unnecessarily. Terrible color, contrast and font usage.

Waste of time and effort -- a beautification project.

Yes, there are other more important issues at Amazon. When I need to contact a buyer there is not a subject heading that will get their attention. "Order Information" and the others are often ignored by the buyer. We need one like "There is a problem with your order."

There was a list on the right that showed all the international sites we were on and how many sales we had for each site. Now we have to check each site all day long to see of we have sales in other countries.

When we come back to Seller Central it defaults to showing us all the items we are low on with images which takes up the entire middle of the page.  No way to cut that off. Below that is some super duper guy who has large sales who keeps showing up over and over again all the way down the center of the page NOT HELPFUL

I have no problem with the new design.  I wonder if the complainers are old people who just don't like change?
What we should be complaining about is the new design for Ebay listing.  No more "decline offers lower than" price button, only "best Offer", which means the buyer could offer $1 for a $100 item and you're haggling with that person for hours.

Had not noticed the change when I went online this morning, guess I am inured to fickle and changing websites.

It seems these mega websites follow each other because many have gone to this lighter shade which is really annoying.  The fonts suck and are barely readable.  If it ain't broke don't fix it!

I didn't see the point in it as I wasn't having problems in the first place and liked being able to see everything at a glance with no scrolling. I do like the new inventory page where the last thing we listed shows up first. Last week after listing something I noticed that I wasn't seeing the listing. I was able to go back and relist it as something had screwed up. This was something I never would have caught before, because who knew where they buried things and the inventory page always reloaded with oldest items first I think. Hard to know with 4000 items listed. But with the change to the inventory page, you can't just click the button to add another item like the last one you listed. You have to get off the page and then come back and see what you just listed in the inventory list and then click to redo the listing. A waste of time when it was so easy to hit a button immediately after listing especially when all you have to do is change sizes. I hate wasting time when listing as it can make such a big difference in how much gets listed that day.

Oh boy, another "responsive" redesign that's anything but.  Developers excel at making real programmers look bad.

@Chicago48

If you genuinely believe that "old people" are the only age group you allege hates change, you've got  lot surprises coming in your life.

Amazon must be hiring former ebay programmers.
