Could July 15th Become Bigger than Black Friday?

Amazon has declared July 15th "Prime Day," when it will offer more deals than it does on the all important Black Friday deals day (the day after Thanksgiving).

It seems like Amazon is taking a page out of Alibaba's playbook. Alibaba created its own shopping holiday too, and November 11th, aka Single's Day, has been embraced by shoppers (and by other retailers) in China to the point that it has surpassed Cyber Monday sales.

Monday's Newsflash has more information about Prime Day. The deals are only available to Prime members.

Amazon told us it invited FBA sellers to participate as sellers. If you were invited, let us know what you think of the opportunity.

And let us know what you think of the new holiday - could Amazon succeed in boosting July sales for all sellers? And will Amazon see a boost in Prime membership?

Has anyone noted that Amazon seems to be on an Advertising spree?

Numerous very well done commercials and several excellent targeted events

Is ebay even still open??

Hey Guys.... Stop with the super-duper tippy tippy top secret meetings debating super secret special deals

Stop with the seller culling

Stop with the embarrassing attempt to get your thrashed and weary sellers to do your catalog work for you for free

April 1st is too obvious, eBay will probably opt for Feb 30th.

Then they wont admit that they made an error in the date, only a "technical difficulty is being experienced".

@toolguy - what is funny, is you being all about eBay - you can't say anything negative about Amazon, except you won't shop there. That's it?

The rest of us don't have enough room to say what is deserved about eBay.

Don't get me wrong, you doing ''well'' on eBay is fine and dandy. But you can't deny that Amazon has the better business model all around. It's not my word, but the amount of customers buying there.

Amazon sales are extremely down at least for us compared to last year, eBay sales on the other hand are way up.

Prior to today I could count on one hand the amount of times eBay has outsold Amazon, for the past several months it's been an almost a daily occurrence.

Amazon's either throttling our sales volume or losing their momentum.

In 6 years eBay sales have never amounted to more than 1/3rd of our sales, now it's almost completely opposite.

All fine by me, Amazon treats it's sellers like sh*t, I for one would love to see eBay kick their butts again, if they would just drop the listing fee crap like pretty much any other sales venue, quit trying to force stores on sellers and loosen up on the listing limits for veteran sellers they would have a shot.

I don't shop on Amazon either, I shop plenty on eBay though, I very rarely buy from sellers with ''stock photo's''.. I will pass and spend a little more to buy from someone who actually takes the time to post a photo, I want to see the item I am purchasing.

Whoever said Amazon has the better business model, from this sellers standpoint, not really.. free listings and no limits is about it, we won't benefit from the 15th at all, we don't use FBA, our products don't qualify for Amazon Prime and I have no interest in all the crap involved with it, why do I want to pay more fee's to Amazon to be part of it's FBA cult? A majority of our prices are always cheaper than anyone else on Amazon.
If you think eBay is Freebay they aren't much different, we get ripped off by customers pretty much the same on both, forced to take returns for any reason on both, have unrealistic selling metrics (Detailed Seller Ratings/Customer Metrics)on both and deal with a crappy feedback system on both. Out of 22,409 Amazon sales since we started, we've managed to get a whopping 3,217 customers to leave feedback over 6 years, we've had that many on eBay in just the last year.

Neither one is perfect, but Amazon sure as hell isn't that much better of a platform for sellers.

Probably just another day here.  Lately we rent Amazon movies but buy ''new'' grocery/drug/soap/items at Walmart online.  Everything comes from different locations so it keeps me in nice boxes to recycle.

I don't dislike Amazon but for some reason have not bought from them for quite a while.  Not a prime member - and - Walmart usually beats their price on the items I buy over and over.



-- shut1968, I thought it was just me with an aversion  to stock photos.  Hardly give those items passing notice as, like you, I prefer listings with the real photo of the real item.  

I first noticed this years ago. If I sold a book or two and used my own photos instead of the stock photo - my listing would sell quickly while similar priced same book with stock photo remained for sale.

It's hard to believe that Amazon will see an increase in Prime memberships since every story on the local news about this mentions that you can sign up for a free 30-day Prime membership to take advantage of the sales. So I can see lots of people signing up, and then before the 30 days expires they cancel the membership. I hope Jeff isn't take a cue from JD and using this promotion to say how the sale increased memberships.

I heard the amazon commercial today sounds like they are ramping up prime memberships
I think this is great thing getting new buyers for the site at least they are trying for all their sellers were as freebay has not put any money into advertising at all outside freebay messages and emails that most buyers block too much spam from them everyday something new to spend an hour reading that makes no since

the Sailors already jumped ship only ones left are the skeleton crew that never see the light of day because they are deep in the dark, the freebay ship has a big gaping hole in the side and is sinking fast

Obviously Amazon believes "if you build it they will come".

Give something enough hype, they will indeed.  At least Amazon has the deep pockets to make it happen.

At some point the Amazon business model will need to include "regular profits".  It has a lot of customers because it sells things below the total cost to deliver them to the buyer, and that can only last for so long.  I'm happy to take advantage of them as a consumer in the meantime, but I don't own their stock directly, nor will I.

At least eBay wants to earn a profit.  It just needs to figure out where the profits come from.  Last I checked, it's only the sellers that pay fees to eBay, and it's us sellers that they keep driving away.

You can see your limits on your Selling Manager page, maybe.  Sometimes you have to call and ask them to turn that on for you.
