Amazon Backend Goes Down for Sellers

Amazon users are unable to access their selling accounts due to a Seller Central outage. Sellers reported the issue on Ecommerce EKG at 2:22 pm ET, and it remains down. Amazon spokesperson Erik Fairleigh confirmed to EcommerceBytes that Seller Central was temporarily down.

Some sellers initially panicked until they saw it was an outage affecting others because of the message it displayed when they tried to access their account. "I'm getting email address not associated to an account," one worried seller tweeted. "I hope to god this is a glitch," a seller wrote on a discussion board.

"Glad I'm not the only one. I saw this and was very confused: "This account is not associated with a valid merchant/marketplace."

"Had me scared because it had a message that there was no associated merchant account," another seller wrote on Facebook. "I've seen it down many times before.. but never have I seen it say that message," wrote another.

Amazon also confirmed the outage on Twitter, tweeting, "Thank you for the feedback on Seller Central. There is a known issue, and we are working to remedy the cause. We appreciate your patience!"

Sellers relieved it appeared to be an outage rather than a problem with their individual accounts then joked (sort of) about the effect the message had on their health.

Such outages had been relatively rare, with one occurring last fall, but today's outage is the second in as many months. Amazon Seller Central was down for about 3 hours in early May.

With the outage, sellers are unable to manage orders, print postage and conduct other selling activities. The discussion boards are also unavailable. The message now displayed reads, "Seller Central is Temporarily Unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience. Our technical staff is working on a solution. For urgent issues, contact Seller Support (toll-free): US (877) 251-2571; Canada (877) 251-5499."

It was up long enough for me to print out my orders, then back down again.

Guess I find it interesting that Amazon's site has been down more than Ebay's this year it seems....

The way I read the message initially was that I didn't have a seller account with them so I was suspended from selling on Amazon! Between weather that kept knocking out our satellite and this, I didn't get much done anywhere. Sales were slow this week anyhow so that usually gives me time to get listings up on eCRATER and Amazon, but not the last few days of last week.
