Etsy Snubs Vintage in Mother's Day Promotion

As a buyer AND seller of vintage "art and collectibles", I too find it aggravating and short-sighted to say the least. There IS one site that caters to "antiques and collectibles": Ruby Lane. Maybe it's time to set up shop there.

I was under the impression etsy was only hand made and vintage items? now they are snubbing vintage???? @RCL try SpeediTrade they have lots of used and vintage and the site is very responsive to both buyers and sellers too I love it no stress!!

I know many mothers who collect vintage items and would love a piece of their collection for a gift. How shortsighted.  

Not to mention ''vintage'' pays the same fees for exposure as everyone else.

But notice supplies isn't mentioned at all. Supplier sellers get even less mention and promotion then vintage. And supply sellers probably bring the most buyers and traffic.

I sell many crochet and knitting needle sets for Mothers Day. Etsy's market research in their Mothers Day picks is really poor.

Aren't most mothers ''vintage''? Vintage used as an endearing, loving term and not as old, throwaway or disregarded. Seems to me Etsy is only trying to promote to young mothers and dissing the rest of the mothers. Wouldn't most vintage mothers like to receive a memorable gift from years gone by?

Seems like a play out of ebays playbook. Throttle 1 - promote another. I dont understand venues screwing with their base sellers. Stupid , just Stupid !

Etsy's recent decisions are definitely a part of why I am phasing out my vintage shops on Etsy. The other part is personal, I'm getting too busy with portraits, thankfully.

i don't know why etsy would drop or ignore Vintage?? I sell mostly vintage items and sell on SpeediTrade I just ran the numbers and am showing great thru Google

So, I move my Ebay vintage over to Etsy, and now it is Deja Vu, all over again.  

Why do these companies feel like they have to control and decide what is best for Sellers and Buyers?  Why can't they just show everything available and allow the Buyers to choose what they prefer?

Are they going to ruin Etsy, with managements soaring egos, just like Ebay did?

Well, I see that 2009 and 2010 are repeating.

Now that Etsy is public, there ARE articles that will appear under the finance page charts. They usually accept comments, too.

As a veteran Etsy seller, complaining in the forums will accomplish NOTHING. IF you want any sort of results you need the write the real decision makers, THE BOARD. Not that they will get it completely right either, but they will do something.

Keep the letters professional. Do not expect a reply, because they have no manners either.

Do some digging and learn some of the behind the scenes real history behind some of the CEO changes. It is not exactly how it plays out in the Etsy blog.

RCL, Ruby lane is too expensive. I THOROUGHLY checked them out before Etsy.

It still boils down the fact that SITE TRAFFIC is King.

Follow the money; write the board.

Thanks for posting this. It's incited quite a few vintage sellers on Etsy and the original forum thread in ''Bugs'' continues to grow as more and more vintage sellers hear about it on vintage teams.

What bugs me, as a vintage seller on Etsy, is that it went public as a B corporation. According to the NY Times, the B status means Etsy cares as much about ''community as they do profits.''

Its deliberate sabotage of vintage, especially for Mother's Day, speaks much louder than any B status hoopla.

Time fr Chad Dickerson and his new board to put up or shut up.

This is unbelievable! Clearly, Etsy is sending us a strong message that vintage and antique sellers are not valued. If we can't sell for Mother's Day, when in the world would we? Rubylane and The Vintage Village, here I come!

This is the same company that writes in their business IPO prospectus  under ''Risks Associated With Our Business''
• We expect to increase our marketing efforts to help grow our business, but those efforts may not be effective at attracting new members and retaining existing members.

So more future changes that may scare the rest of us off this site, and for a change they will be so bad that they are even worried about attracting new members.

So why is anyone surprised about anything they do. Folks open your eyes. They care nothing about there members, were a means to an end. Nothing more, nothing less.

They always screw us over. Vintage has always being treated badly.

You guys want to accoomplish something. Then stop listing, stop re-listing and stop filling there pockets with your money. One week would hurt them where it counts. That is the only thing they care about.

Why this company supports vintage items in such a half-assed way is a mystery.  Someone there is missing the boat.  If Etsy were to embrace it fully, they could pull a big chunk of ebay's business their way.  If they don't want it "contaminating" their "hand made in China" chachkis, then they could create an entirely separate brand for it under the Etsy banner.

I am not surprised by this at all, after all it is Etsy.

Etsy does not care about their customers, their sellers.

Hand-crafted talent is to be admired, but as a vintage seller, vintage shop owners deserve recognition too!!

There are plenty of people searching for rare collectibles, home décor items, or vintage fashions that were often USA made with recognized quality.

Refusing to list another item in my shop and as soon as my pre-purchased sale credits run out, I am leaving Etsy too.

On the rare occasions when handmade/crafted items are required, I will purchase handmade and hand-crafted items locally.

Having agreed with every single comment from Etsy Sellers, it seems surreally as though the stone-cold heart of ebay has entered the heart of the Etsy board. To the Etsy Board, please, say it isn't so!!!!

PS: My mom and her daughter and her granddaughters, who are also mothers, all LOVE vintage jewelry.  How dare you exclude the vintage category in your promotion???  How will the fathers, sons, sons-in-law, and grandsons know where to look??????
