That is just sad.

Throughout history there have always been thieves and lowlifes - does it only seem like there are many more now days?


I don't know much about silver. Is this something the thieves would melt down for the content?  

Otherwise, I wonder if sellers could make a hidden unique mark on an item such as this - to aid in identifying stolen property.

I have to agree with sasikat9. Tami should have had insurance as those rings were her inventory.

@Basset - The thievery certainly seems to have increased. It's gotten so bad in my neighborhood (which is not a slum; there are half a million dollar homes here) that I no longer put anything outside that I don't want to get stolen. Some months back a concrete bird bath weighing about 70 pounds, that had been sitting in my side yard for 19 years, was stolen. Not too long ago, somebody, or bodies, jumped the fence that encircles the back yard, went onto my screened-in patio, and stole bags of aluminum cans that I was preparing to recycle. I can't believe that humanity has sunk so low.

The victim came up with a reward of $1000. If you can find the monies after the fact for a reward, seems like you should be able to find funds for insurance. A very tough lesson.

AND : SHOOT TO KILL on your own property. Works in my neighborhood, but they NEVER publicize it. Never wound, always kill.

Seems to be missing info here. $40,000 inventory? What she expected to earn? Or, her cost for the inventory? Inventory value is cost and a few misc things - not expectations. And as mentioned, no inventory insurance but can offer $1000 reward..

Just does not all add up.... Sorry, but no tears for her here.

Robbery and burglary are two different things... this seller was burgled, not robbed. That said, being burgled was bad enough!

Another thought: How was it know that it was ''thieves'' plural and not just one person? Inside job? Building security or cleaning team? The last two or usually the first two suspected in an office building with a new tenant being robbed.

I feel so sorry for this vendor and this is an illustration of why I, and many EU sellers, disobey the law. Here is Europe we have a STUPID law that you have to make ''available'' the ''physical location'' from which you do business so your customers can see it. You are not allowed to use a mailbox or somewhere anonymous. So if you trade from home you risk a visit from any theif, lowlife and nutcase. There is no exception for anyone elderly, disabled, having young children or vulnerable in some way.

I am an elderly disabled dealer
and my personal safety and privacy are more important to me than some silly legislation passed by a group of corrupt politicos. So like many dealers in my position I use a virtual office address in a nearby city which gives me a credible looking ''street'' address. Good luck on anyone going there to find my stock.

sad part is.. probably about $5,000 scrap price and after the attempt to sell the melted down scrap.. maybe $1,000 to $2500. a good weeks high to the thieves and most likely someone she knew.

As a responsible business owner, the woman should have had insurance. How can she possibly PROVE she had over $40,000 worth of spoons? Because she said so? All I can say is, she sure is getting a lot of publicity and exposure . . .

This story sounds fishy. She could afford an office but not insurance? Where are the receipts for the spoons?

No one knows really anything except it is good business practice to carry business insurance and that for that type of business should have been a negligible amount.

With her own office, yes insurance is crucial. It is like so many renters that get burned out of their buildings and never do you hear them saying that they had tenants insurance. So now they have lost everything they own right down to everything but the nightgown on their backs. I had renters insurance at one point. It was the most inexpensive insurance I've ever had to fork over for since the company knows that they won't have to rebuild a home or replace a car. They just have to replace some electronics, pots and pans, beds, and some clothing so cheap to the insurance company as well but does help you sleep better at night.

Those of use with businesses in our homes have to walk a tighter walk about insurance because of the way the insurance company would look at you and require of you. But having a stand alone office shouldn't have been that expensive.

I do feel bad for her no matter how she valued her inventory as that is a heavy lose to take.

A large used safe can be bought for $500. or less, and as small as her items are, that would have been a good place for them every night. The scum that stole them will take them to pawn shop who will melt the loot right away.

Definitely someone she knows either stole directly or pointed out the stash to a third party. Had any run ins with former or disgruntled employees lately?
