What Are the Funniest Seller Photos You've Seen?

By: Julia Wilkinson

Let's just have some fun this weekend. I don't want to pick on anyone, but I went to list a new lipstick and checked some comp listings on the marketplace beforehand. One that came up was so hilarious, I just had to share it in a private Facebook group I'm in.

At first it looked like a listing for office equipment; there was a large printer in the foreground. In the background you could see a desk, which had a headset on it.OK, so where's the lipstick? ("Where's the chapstick?" as the Youtube girl would say...25,805,131 views and counting).

Well, it was there, in front of the printer. Just a little hard to see. It made me think of some other bad photos I've seen on online marketplaces (I'm sure I've posted my share back in the day, though hopefully nothing that bad...lol). And wonder what other bad photos you've seen.

So today, share the worst or funniest photo you've seen or remember seeing. Describing it is fine. I suppose it would be too mean to post a link to someone's listing. (I also wonder if some of the photo weirdness is due to eBay's latest photo requirements, which were announced in the Fall Seller Update? (Photos must be at least 500 pixels on the longest side of the picture. If a seller uploads a photo of a large-enough ize, but cropping it will make it too small for the requirement, they may wind up with a picture with too many distractions around it).

One genre of bad photos: unintentional (?) "reflecto-art." There is a list online of the most outrageous eBay "reflectoporn" photos, but I think I'll let you find it on your own, if you are so inclined.

Share your memories of the bad photos you've seen by posting a comment here!

I've decided to wear a clown mask when I photograph shiny chrome objects.

I photo'd some clothing items to list on eBay this week. When I loaded them to my computer, I noticed an anole (lizard) had crawled into the photo area - and was in every photo.  Just calmly sitting there watching me..

I was able to crop him out of them. I thought about leaving him, but was afraid I'd get a SNAD if I did not include him in the package!

I recall the one with the shiny chrome teapot that had a distorted reflection showing that the photographer was nude.

Here's a NON-NUDE example to give you an idea...

but if you do a Google images search of ''eBay teapot nude'' you'll easily find the original one. --- I have a difficult time believing that it was accidental.

Some of the funniest pictures I've seen on eBay are when a seller does not have an inkling of how to assemble the item he is trying to sell. Sometimes they don't even know what they have. The way they put items together and then picture and describe them can be hysterically funny.

The teapot one and other notorious "oops I'm naked" ones have been outed as intentional. There's a subculture of folks who do this.

This is not the funniest but it's absurd. Seller did the Amazon-white background thing but never stopped to consider how crunchy the bra looked on a little mannequin. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Exquisite-Form-White-Lace-Camisole-Strap-Bra-b

A local radio station had a contest back at the dawn of Ebay Time--when you really COULD find ANYTHING on there.  Sigh.

They wanted to see how WEIRD the tings really were on ebay so people had to submit pics of the   listings.  Jesus in a taco;  Jesus in a slice of toast--why is it always Jesus BTW?  Don't the OTHER Holy figures get a chance at this?  Gum chewed by Elvis!  In the shape of--Jesus!   Well anyways----

We found some seriously strange things but NOTHING as weird as the true antique medical photos of--squeamish alert here--dead babies preserved and cut in half.

Yes.  You did read that right.

And yes it WAS as gross as it sounds.

And NO ebay would not remove them.

I can't remember what won but it was not that.

I don't know how to show a photo here (I don't see an ''add image'' option) but here's an example of someone selling tokens - and showing a photo with more lamp than tokens.  :-)

I once saw a seller put a piece of makeup on top of a toilet seat.  I kid you not....  Must of had the makeup in the bathroom and thought the toilet seat was the best flat surface around.  I wish I had copied that picture just to have a laugh every once in awhile.

Larchlea1 is correct. I think the first "reflection porn" photo was an oops, but all the ones that came later were intentional. I remember reading an article years ago that people were trying to see just how outrageous their photos could be and how long they could stay up before eBay would cancel the auction. People were listing broken, dented and generally junk items just to get their photos shown.

I'll nominate practically any decorative lamp or clock listing where the wall plug is plainly visible, dangling out the back of the device, but the seller loudly announces ''UNTESTED'' in their description, as if they can't seem to figure out how to operate a plug. (...or as the author of that wonderful Telechron.net clock-collecting website once commented, ''Have they not yet brought electricity to your village?'')

Most recently I saw a picture of a paperclip. Just one. Emailed seller and asked if he had another cause I needed 2-he said sorry only one per customer-LOL!

One of the funniest listings I saw on Ebay was a picture of an overweight woman asleep in a recliner, mouth open, curlers in her hair. The listing was for "worthless, lazy Wife for sale". Can't remember all of the listing, but was funny! Something like ornament for your living room, does nothing, but eats a lot, etc, etc. Bet she was mad when she saw what Hubby has posted!

Another was not a photo, but in the TOS of a description, they did a typo and it said, "will s*it upon receipt of payment" I think he meant it to be ship. LOL!
