Do You Have a Favorite Antiques Shop? New Directory

By: Julia Wilkinson

On this Antiques Friday (hashtag #ABAntiquesFri on Twitter), we're asking folks if they have a favorite antiques shop, be it in their hometown or elsewhere. The Ning Group "I Antique Online," run by C. Dianne Zweig, is compiling a free directory of such shops, and you can submit your favorite there if you want to contribute.

If you are a member of the group (it's easy to join, if not), Dianne is asking for the following information:

"How To Send Me Information via Email: Please send me an email (  with the subject line  containing the name of the state and the words "Antique Stores."

"Texas Antique Stores  or Connecticut Antique Stores"

"Inside your email repeat the subject line and than list as many antique stores/antique malls as you can  with the address and telephone number.  If you own the store please tell me. If you have a booth in the store, please tell me. Extra: if you want to write a short review about the store, please do."

"I would like to create a free data base of antique shops and antique malls across the USA," explained Zweig," in an email to members. "I need your help. Most online directories are so out of dated. When I go traveling, I like to be able to easily find antique and collectibles places to go to."

"So can you help me as much as you can? BTW , you can also forward this email request to others you  know."

"Members who go above and beyond the call of duty will receive featured member status by me, she said. But everyone who helps (even with just one or two names) will be appreciated."

My favorite shop? The Mount Vernon Antique Center, right here in Virginia near, you guessed it, Mount Vernon. It's one of the oldest in the area.

Do you have a favorite shop? Tell us what, and why. Post a comment here, and if you want, send a note to Dianne for her directory.
