eBay Gets Extreme Makeover in Electronics

By: Ina Steiner

Remember years ago searching on eBay and finding items sorted by "time ending soonest" so you could place bids in the last seconds of an auction? In 2008, eBay decided to give itself a makeover, and today, you can see how far-reaching the changes have become by searching in the consumer electronics category.

On Thursday, eBay announced "an exciting new way to shop" for TVs, camcorders, iPads, Apple computers. "When you browse or search for one of hundreds of top electronics items, you'll now see all the listings available for your desired item, on one handy page."

In other words, eBay has a more Amazon-like shopping experience where you see the "Product page" and the "Buy box" (called the Value box on eBay), and sellers use eBay's catalog to list products.

eBay explained in its announcement on Thursday, "This product page is the page that appears when a buyer clicks on a product box in search results. The product page shows buyers common information about the product at the top of the page, the number of items available for purchase, and highlights the best value available for that item."

eBay does differentiate itself from Amazon in a few ways:

- the Product page highlights different item conditions including Refurbs and Used items, and you'll also find auction listings;

- eBay displays products available at the shopper's local brick-and-mortar stores;

- eBay also shares pricing trends for the product.

The catalog and Product page aren't new, but eBay is tweaking them and surfacing them in more categories.

It's hard for eBay to compete with Amazon for new goods, even with its aggressive pursuit of manufacturers and big-box retailers - Amazon has mastered the catalog and its prices are hard to beat for new goods.

But by allowing shoppers to look for bargains by perusing used and refurbished goods in a more structured format, could eBay succeed in bringing back shoppers? And are they the kind of shoppers that eBay sellers are looking for?

Until eBay drastically reduce their fees, stop ridicules postage caps on certain items, dump the business destroying DSR and 1 way feedback system, stop rolling blackouts, get customer service that actually HELP sellers, HELP cross border sellers as eBay actively promote but destroy them with idiotic seller limits and seller standards that are not under any sellers control (i.e Customs delays)then.....
I will stick with Amazon and actually make a profit to pay my staff with….
eBay you are too late in the race and far too much bad will around your Company’s especially Paypal
Dumb company with dumb management = too much stress

And while eBay workers are reviewing these comments:
Why we left eBay (other than reduced sales high fees and the stress)

We had 7 eBay business seller accounts on 3 eBay domains, 2 were high FB TRS Accounts, 3 were powerseller accounts , and 2 other accounts with over 1500 FB each, all selling the same items, same price , no free shipping  and all international sales from the same Country & same customer service.

Guess which 2 accounts were shut down due to bad buyer experience with NO chance to re-activate them all with 100% FB; NO Paypal or eBay claims ever…yes that’s right the 2 TRS accounts (4 Neutral FB given in 1 month from buyers with less than 20 FB...1 buyer had NO feedback and did not like the thick envelope???? same we use for over 10 years selling on line)

So I opened 1 selling Account on Amazon just over 1 year ago selling the very same eBay items at a higher price) and we have never looked back

eBay is a Joke

As a buyer and a comparison shopper, it's been a long time since I found anything in the electronics area which was less expensive on ebay. Now that they have the so-called free shipping (with extremely jacked up base prices) the differences are even greater.

Making the site appear different doesn't help the bottom line.

Use a search engine instead of searching ebay.

STRONGLY agree with every last word by you both above me - ebay has lost their 'mojo' under Donastupid and is too far behind to EVER get it back.

Shame really, I made 10's of thousands of honest sales and reasonable profits on there before that moron starting screwing around with things - I'll never go back now - not as a BUYER or SELLER... screw ebay and their stupidity.

It's not exciting at all.

Shopping on eBay is like revisiting the scene of a crime...

where YOU were the victim.

ebay FAKED their product page!!!!!!

The user hednrus shown in the listing as ''Best deal from top rated seller''.
1.  IS NOT A REGISTERED USER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. There is no record of any sale from this user in the last six months. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. The item in the listing was sold over 8 months ago back in January.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4. Users feedback before becoming NARUd was 188 not 126 so the ebay info is quite outdated.
5. The item ebay shows as best deal from top rated seller CANNOT BE PURCHASED because there is no such seller or item!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. Other sellers shown in the listing have nothing for sale.
7. The dates based on users feedback shown span From August 2010 to January 2011.

The ''Product Page'' shown in this article can be found on ebays announcement board for September, 29, 2011. IT'S A COMPOSITE,  A PHONEY CUT AND PASTE, A FAKE.

You can verify this by looking at the feebacks for the first three users under ''New - Buy it Now'' by simply taking the users current feedback and subtracting the feeback shown in this phoney ebay page to calculate the date these users had the feedback number shown:

hednrus feedback shows 126, which would be August 18, 2010
medicswife2002 feedback shows 220 which would be between Jan, 15 and Feb 05, 2011
macmall feedback shows 220 which would be the first week in November 2010

hednrus left feedback for the buyer January 4, 2011on this listing (at which time his feedback would have been 169. not 126)
The buyer left feedback for hednrus on January 10, 20111
So the hednrus listing they show is for a transaction that took place back in January 2011

Why didn't ebay just do a search and bring up a page to illustrate their new product page? Why did they have to fake it? You would think somebody would bother to check that the user was in good standing not NARU'd.

This tells me ebays ''Mind Set'' is one of total deception, they are such ''Control Freaks'' they have to phoney up a page rather than show you an actual page so they can control every aspect of what you see and they are so incompetent and put so little effort into checking their work they screw it all up.

Once Again, Ebay is painting the barn door while the barn is on fire.

They can't come up with any ideas of their own, so they copy Amazon.

Why would you sell or buy on a site that can't even do a good job of copying it's top competitor?

I got a call last night from an Ebay rep asking about my seller experience....I haven't sold anything on there for 6 months and they didn't even know that. When I politely began to explain why, they rep suddenly decided she had to let me go.  What happens to companies who refuse to recognize what is wrong?

Again, painting the barn door while everyone is screaming that the barn is on fire.

JMO, but this only cements my  resolution for buying on Amazon.

Simply put, have you ever heard of the game....''Follow the LEADER''....

eBay is the 800 lb gorilla mimicking the business model of the 1200 lb gorilla.

Stupid is as stupid does I guess

By destroying its small sellers and messing up its Auction format, eBay is no longer a unique fun place to buy/sell. Better deals for all can be found elsewhere....Amazon already does a good job of being Amazon.
ebay cant even so a good Dollar tree imitation..... Hopefully venues like ETSY will take over the unique / one of a kind market.. may eBay die a slow painful death..

I won't even click on it. That will just allow for them to tell the shareholders that hits are up on the site. I bet their counters are working fine.

They've always been so embarrassed to be who they were meant to be. If they'd stayed the course they would be KILLING Amazon hand over fist right now.

You just KNOW its all about class, prestige, and a management that does NOT want to be dependent on, or associated with, poorer less educated people for its income...

The type of people Management would NEVER be caught dead having drinks with.

And that really, really sucks.

OFF TOPIC but relevant to the ebay mentality as ebafia's teenage managers thrash around in deep water clueless as to how to proceed.

New HP CEO Neg Meg Whitman has hired Wall Street thugs and co conspirators in Meg's stock scandal a few years ago, Goldman Sachs, to prevent or dismantle so called "investor activism" wherein stock holders try to make HP management accountable for their poor management.

http://www.techzone360.com/topics/techzone/articles
/223732-hp-brings-goldman-sachs-fend-off-shareholder-activism.htm

(Sorry,
main computer in shop & I don't have the tiny url thing bookmark on this computer.)

Reports I read last week concerning HP's decision to hire this ebafia loser were quite critical of the hiring decision.

What lengths will corporate white collar criminals go to prevent stockholders from learning the truth about their incompetence and greed?

Google Whitman Goldman investor activism and see corporate thuggery at work.

Sorry for the diversion, but Neg Meg bears much responsibility for the evil entity that ebafia has become.

Perhaps these HP "activist investors" will hire the Gotti family to police Goldman Sachs and Neg Meg Witless!

Watch this play out because WE could do the same thing to ebafia!

Using lowest to highest or ending soonest works just fine.  Using best match is horrible as new Ebay members unknowlingly use best match and see high prices first and quickly are turned off by the high prices.  Best match is a major problem as is the watching feature which encourages people to watch instead of to bid or to buy.  Amazon never will have the watch feature because Amazon is a much smarter company.

Ebay is a SAD place now.

It use to be so much fun,
As a seller and Buyer.

I have been with them for 14 years.
I was a small seller, About 50 things a month.
Unique Things, Little Antiques, Hard to fine, Items.

Never had a Negative Feedback, in all the 14 years, Until this year.
Had a seller bought 2 items, One arrived broke.
It was insured with the USPS.
She was paid for both by the USPS, Got to keep the one
That wasn't broke,
And she Still Demanded a Paypal Refund.
She left me 2 Negatives.

That buyer Protection they show everywhere in a New buyers face,
Brings out the Thief in them.

I have a 4.9 4.9 4.9 4.8 In that order in the DSL rating
(I call it The Kindergartners Gold Star Chart)

Now they are holding my Money in Paypal,For 21 days!!!

They said I am not up to There Standards as a seller on Ebay.
But can't explain why. With my score.
I called Ebay, WOW, they are so hateful Now!
When I told her, I needed my Money,
I can't wait 21 days,
She actually told "We don't care"

This this is my Farewell Week to Ebay!
Because I WAS a small Seller, I am Not wanted.
Wonder if they Understand, I was also a Buyer.
NOT any more. Good bye EBAY

One day you will know as the
"Dollar Store" of the Internet,
Everything from China
