Are Your Listings Being Seen in eBay Search Results?
By: Ina Steiner
A reader sent me a link to an eBay discussion thread with a note that said an eBay seller's listings for new records were not showing up in search results.
The original poster (OP) on the discussion board thread wrote, "If you are a seller of new vinyl LPs on ebay, did you know that your LPs are not searchable when searched under the New condition." He explained how searching for "AC/DC vinyl", then select "Records", then select "New" only brought back results from international sellers.
He then wrote, "I checked completed listings and found that International sellers completion rates war far better than any U.S. sellers for the identical item although the U.S. sellers price was much better. Since my calls and emails about this have gone unanswered, I am pulling the remainder of my LPs as they close out their month."
Another seller asked the OP if he was using the "item condition" attribute, since he was filtering his search results by the "New" attribute. (eBay calls product attributes item specifics.) Sure enough, he was not - because, he said, eBay's Sell Your Item listing form does not support item condition.
I'm not sure why eBay's own listing form would not support important product attributes. I did a Google search for "does turbo lister support item condition," and a lot of people have problems with this issue when using eBay's Turbo Lister tool as well- and there are also suggestions on how to get it to work.
It's worth conducting searches on the marketplaces on which you sell to make sure your items are being displayed in search results. The original poster in this discussion board thread found a problem by doing just that.
And if marketplaces are unresponsive to your questions, it's worth asking your colleagues for help!
