eBay Sellers Weigh in on Whitman-Brown Governor Race
By: Ina Steiner
eBay CEO Meg Whitman retired from the corporate world in 2008 and soon after began the run for Governor of California. The election is only 2 months away (November 2), and the poll numbers are heating up in an attempt to predict who will win, Whitman, or California Attorney General Jerry Brown.
We wondered how eBay sellers would vote if they had the chance, so we took our own poll of readers last week and found 61% of eBay sellers would vote for Jerry Brown; 26% would vote for Meg Whitman; 11% would vote for neither; and 2% would vote for another candidate.
Whitman's eBay experience is featured heavily in her campaign, yet only 26% of the sellers who made a full or part-time living on eBay and took our poll said they would vote for Meg Whitman in her bid to take that experience and apply it to running the state of California.
A 2003 article in Fortune magazine stated Whitman and her management team had a "suspicion that eBay runs itself." Whether it's true or not, with California's economic crisis, that's not a situation she'll find herself in should she get to Sacramento.
The poll was open from September 1 and September 5, 2470 readers responded. See the results and some comments from readers who took the poll in Monday's AuctionBytes Newsflash newsletter.
