eBay Gives Free-Shipping Five Stars with New DSR Policy
By: Ina Steiner
eBay confirmed it is now automatically giving sellers five stars on the shipping cost DSR when they offer Free Shipping. eBay spokesperson Johnna Hoff said the process of earning the 5-star shipping cost DSR is as follows:
1) A seller must offer a Free Shipping option on their item.
2) A buyer must choose the free shipping option during payment.
3) eBay must be able to verify the buyer didn't pay shipping costs. Sellers should be sure to offer verifiable payment methods (i.e. PayPal, MoneyBookers, PayMate, ProPay) and use eBay checkout. (Third-party checkouts will work, as long as they provide the full post back information to eBay, so that we can verify the buyer didn't pay for shipping.)
Sellers have wondered why eBay allowed buyers to leave a less than perfect rating on shipping cost DSRs when they offered free shipping, ever since the new Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs) rolled out in 2007.
AuctionBytes reported sightings of the automatic 5-stars on Tuesday, reported in the AuctionBytes Blog. Hoff confirmed that the change in policy was not a test - "it's available to all eBay sellers," she told AuctionBytes.
