eBay Launches Fashion Vault 'In Crowd' Membership Club

By: Ina Steiner

Taking a cue from fashion membership sites like Gilt.com and RueLaLa, eBay has launched a membership club for fashion shoppers interested in purchasing from the Fashion Vault flash-sale portal. Any registered user can shop on the Fashion Vault, but those who sign up to be eBay Fashion Vault In Crowd members receive special perks such as priority access to sales one hour early; exclusive coupons and promotions; members-only secret sales; and refer-a-friend bonuses.

Yesterday eBay named Miriam Lahage General Manager of eBay Fashion, a newly created role, as it continues to invest heavily in the clothing, shoes and accessories category.

eBay works exclusively with one seller in Fashion Vault, a highly unusual move for the marketplace. StylePremium is operated by eFashion Solutions, and the move has other sellers angry, especially since StylePremium, based in New Jersey, does not collect sales tax from buyers.

Worth noting, shoppers who purchase from Fashion Vault and want to return items must pay return shipping of $8.95 and return the goods in the original packaging with the original tags within 14 days.

If they want to return the item and not have to pay for shipping all they have to do is file a paypal complaint saying it was not as described and paypal will take care f it for them.  It happens to us all the time.

Any "club" run by some goon at eBay, I would never join. And if now I see that someone is a member of this "club" by some stinking badge or whatever I will not do business with them.

Who in the "In Crowd" wants to buy Ebay's leftovers from last year, returns & seconds?

The question I woulod have would be; Do the 10 million active fashion shoppers need Miriam LaHage to be hired in order to enjoy shopping and finding the fashion items they need or want?  Another words; at what point does Ebay wake up and realize that the never ending increase in payroll expense is driving the need to raise fees even higher and it's the yearly fee hikes which is driving buyers and sellers away from ebay.  What Donahoe has to realize is that only when fees are lowered can Ebay begin to grow again and the first step to lowering fees is to reduce payroll; especially the highly paid people.  Highly paid new employees are exactly what Ebay does not need now

Just a thought.  How long will it be before eBay floods all of the clothing listings with Fashion Vault listings as the first items appearing under Best Match?  (If they don't already.)  And none of the regular clothing sellers will be found in the first 100 pages of each search.

Of course, then eBay will announce that any clothing seller can "improve their search exposure" by joining an exclusive top rated seller's club for only a minor listing fee increase, and maybe a bit higher final fee as well.  Oh, and perhaps a surcharge for any photos.

eBafia has learned well from the Mob.

ha!

I used to spend $1k a month on ebay mostly in higher priced designer clothing.

Now, RueLaLa, HC, BTR etc get ALL of my business!

ebay face it. You can't compete because you allow buyers to scam sellers out of high price designer items.  You will get buyers but your sellers are going bye bye faster.

I USED to sell my designer items on ebay until ebay and Paypal decided they would allow buyers to scam sellers at every angle.

Club? No thanks. Love the Rue.

do drop me a line ebay when you have done something about getting rid of your scam artist buyers and have removed the counterfeits from the site.

wait. That will never happen. There is tons of money in illegal counterfeits.

ebay = designer buyer heaven. Get designer goods for a great price and then claim you got a book instead, get your money back and have a $1k pair of shoes.

Wonderful!

Yes, I spend a good portion of my day blogging against anyone buying anything designer on ebay.

Good money in that too but probably not as much as illegal counterfeits.

But hey, some of us still have ethics and morals.

I suppose when all this bombs...as it surely will then regular sellers will be in for another stiff raise to cover the loses.  I'm so glad I don't need Ebay anymore!  Donahoe's tossing of things on the wall to see what sticks can get very expensive ;-)
