eBay Alternatives Hold 'Christmas in July' Sales

By: Ina Steiner

Sponsored Link

Bonanzle and Artfire sellers are holding 'Christmas in July' sales to generate excitement in a typically slow sales period. Bonanzle sellers used a discussion thread to organize a Christmas in July sale to promote their booths. Sellers are allowed to participate any way they desire for any amount of time, with many offering discounts and coupons.

A list of the participating sellers is found on 109frontstreet.com. It's the second year sellers banded together to promote their stores cooperatively.

Artfire sellers also organized a sale, and the marketplace set up a Christmas in July Sale trend page that pulls Pro member items tagged with the special Christmas in July Sale tag (TDOCIJ). Artfire provided sellers with blog badges and promo banners to help them promote their studio during the event, found here.

If you have advice for taking advantage of such promotions, chime in by leaving a comment!

Update: Thanks to commentor, link to Etsy thread about its Christmas in July sale.

Karnak predicts:

No one will care.

No one will comment.

No one will go to those sales.

Write about eBay.

Some people obviously care.

And some people are commenting.

And people are already coming to these sales (some of us are seeing a nice up tick in sales, thank you very much).

And since Bonanzle's fees are lower than ebay's, our prices are typically lower too. (does mentioning ebay count as writing about ebay?)

The mighty Karnak has failed.

Who do you think were the ones who landed there? duh! Another point to ANY potential visitor/buyer: Bonanzle is DEAD ZONE and Unknown to 99.9% of ALL online shoppers///NOT KIDDING, COUNTLESS sellers have been there over two, >YES 2< YEARS and have sold NOTHING!!!!

Alexa's Bonanzle traffic rank is 1,444 in the USA and 5,784 for international.
I'd say someone HAS heard of them. Ebay mentions Bonanzle them in a lot of their surveys and on Ina's own survey they scored very high.

Those angel investors who gave Bonanzle 1 million, I'm sure they saw the sales records BEFORE they made it official.

AND after reading a bunch of the other comments the last few days on various EBAY topics on Auctionbytes I saw a lot of people wanting MORE news about alternative sites and LESS about ebay.

People need to be more supportive of ALL the alternative sites. If you favor one over another, fine, but there's no need to be a troll about it.

Sales are going just fine over on Bonanzle. Your business is what you make it.

You either do the work or you expect it to be done for you. Those who are selling succesfully on Bonanzle have done the work and are reaping the seeds they've sown. They also are helping others to sow their seeds as well. Very few bad seeds there.

Sounds like someone else needs a reality check. My sales are way better than they were at Feebay.

sorry , first of all I am not a troll and sell much on Bonz as I do on other sites but NOT due to Bonz...I am just being HONEST and giving a fair warning and a DIFFERENT view to any potential seller or buyer..yes and as you above have said in your own words about eBay sellers looking for an alternative site..the ''BAD'' seeds from eBay are ALREADY at Bonz..been there since day one....if we are going to write a review, lets include the bad with the good for the sake of the one who will follow..thanks peeps

one always wonders why the bonanzle people end up fighting and arguing on any blog that ever mentions them even though this is a great opportunity to promote the site and this is a positive entry that doesnt pit anybody against anybody. Im skeered to go there Ina, so skeered.

I find the Bonanzle battle odd too ... but I find it odd that it is always the site that is 'under fire' by the naysayers.

Bonanzle is a good site. period.  Most of the sellers are good honest sellers whom go the extra mile for their customers.

BUT Bonanzle is just like all the sites online - there are bad mixed in. But Bonanzle support will look into any seller you have a question about and well do so quickly.

That said, I am amazed at how some have nothing better to do but slam a marketplace they either do not sell on or failed to do well on.  One need to look at the their way of conducting business, it is not the site, be it eBay, Etsy or Bonanzle.

I think there is some merit to what Reality Check is saying. When bad sellers get bounced from one site they usually pop up at another. I'm sure some have found their way to Bonanzle. Any start up site is going to become a home to those who have burned other bridges. But new bad seeds sprout on eBay every day, as well as on other sites. I don't think it's accurate to say Bonanzle has the worst of the lot.

Ina, I am sorry ... I failed to thank you for the great plug for the Christmas In July Sales!
I wish all on Bonanzle, Etsy, and Artfire a July full of sales and encourage all to visit all three sites.

All are filled with good people and good bargains

Thanx Ina for including etsy, you ROCK!

in response to the bonanzle comment~ definitely, all sites have argumentative posters or combative  comments. and yes i do understand it is not the site but rather the individual. I just posted an observation that bonanzle supporters seem to be more aggressive and tend to be argumentative not only with ebay or other site users but amongst themselves as well and have the tendency for banter on blogs that reflect bonanzle in a positive light.

I am not a bonanzle user so I am just posting an observation without bias for or against the site.

you are correct Multi-Site Seller, I stand corrected...Bonz has ''among'' the worst of the bad seeds firmly planted and thriving. I sell MUCH on EVERY site I am on including Bonz and have done so with a PERFECT 10 year plus record of all sites combined and I was set up and selling on Bonz NO MORE than two hours before I could start picking them out...oh so that is where they ran to..just a different HONEST view for the potential seller/buyer..thats all, I am NOT slamming Bonz, just being HONEST when I say it IS on a global shopping basis a DEAD ZONE

Lisa,
I agree with you as to the fiesty nature of many on Bonanzle.  Yes, many are protective of the site, but they are because they believe in the site.
And yes, there are some that simply fuss to fuss, even amongst fellow Bonanzle sellers.
If you watch carefully you will discover the same writing style will also surface on forums etc about other marketplaces, hence revealing the seller.
I wish you the best of sales Lisa, and invite you to my spot on Bonanzle, ... don't be skeered .. the Eagle will watch out for you. LOL

Thanx, i didnt mean to stir the pot. I love Ina's blog an read it a lot. I refrain from posting though as i dont want to get caught up in another this site vs that site dialogue. I sell on ebay once a year when i am bored, i have no loyalty to ebay either. I do like artfire, but i am not a seller there at all, i sell on etsy for fun and thought it was important to mention that etsy is also having a christmas in july sale and thats why i commented! (and i do get skeered) LOL
