eBay's head of global product and North America for eBay is leaving the company, according to the company's corporate blog. She'll become an advisor to CEO John Donahoe for the next few months and plans to leave the company in early 2010. According to the blog post, "Having been in her current role for two years, Stephanie says she felt that with eBay's turnaround under way, now was the right time for her to pursue other career ambitions, including opportunities to lead a company as CEO. Stephanie says she's proud of the progress the eBay team has made, and she believes eBay's best days are still ahead."

Tilenius helped build eBay's business in Korea and Asia Pacific. (Former CEO Meg Whitman referred to herself and Tilenius as "Thelma and Louise" when the pair traveled together in China.) Tilenius was credited with strengthening eBay Motors and helping to build PayPal's merchant services.

Stephanie's position will not be filled - Lorrie Norrington will assume direct responsibility for eBay North America, in addition to her role as the global head of eBay Marketplaces. According to the blog:

Lorrie announced several changes, including the creation of a combined global product and technology team to be led by Mark Carges, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. Combining product and technology is intended to help eBay accelerate innovation and optimize its end-to-end customer experience for sellers and buyers.

Also with an eye toward creating better experiences for sellers and buyers, Norrington announced that Dinesh Lathi will lead a combined seller and buyer organization, responsible for ensuring a seamless end-to-end customer experience.

Maybe there'll be a CEO opening at Zappos.

This was no "resignation," but at least she didn't say it was because she wanted to spend more time with her family.

"Advisor" to The Ho?" That's b-school jargon for severance.

DEATH to ebay corp. in 2009.

Hopefully this will mark the beginning of the end for Donahoe & Co.

eBay desperately needs new leadership.

Consolidation is not going to make things better as long as Donahoe remains at the helm of this sinking ship.

This move treats a symptom, it does nothing to cure the disease that is slowly killing eBay.

Is it going to take another 3rd and 4th quarter of declining sales to convince the eBay Board of Director's that Donahoe's plans have been all wrong from the beginning?

Ebay turnaround well under way...hahahaha what a crock!

Unless she's talking about it turning from great to crap in a hurry then yes it is well well well underway and I can understand her wanting to flee.

Donohoe is on the campaign trail trying to boost the stock. I know he's itching to cash out soon too. He knows ebay is doomed. I think some falsified numbers will come out for the 3rd and 4th quarters to boost the stock and a big shake up and a large sell off in early 2010 I doubt he stays on for the full year 2010 when it's going to become very apparent things are real bad.
Then he'll probably retire somewhere.

Doesn't matter for ebay though, he's done enough damage to last quite some time into the future. If there is still a future for ebay.

Anyone who still sells on Ebay knows the changes have not resulted in more money for anyone (maybe Paypal). The bottom line is Ebay Core is hurting. The venue is a joke. A bad joke.

Yes, Donahoe will cash out and probably early next year. No sweat off his nose.

Never quit a job until you have another one lined up. Maybe she'll try to earn a living on eBay.

HAHAHAHAHA! If she does as well at selling as Norrington does, she will end up at the nearest homeless shelter in record time.

I worked all my life in a big corporate environment.  This:

"She'll become an advisor to CEO John Donahoe for the next few months and plans to leave the company in early 2010. "

simply means she was fired!  They always give executives several month to find another job!  Sometimes as much as 6 months!

@ Patricia

I'm not sure if she was fired or told to move on.

Bottom line...this group of so called leaders was brought in to build Paypal as the main revenue generator.

That meant killing the site with stupid rules so we would all scurry off to alternatives or start our own sites...and take paypal.  They thought they had enough traction...maybe they did...but I'll never use paypal again.

If you accept paypal, you're helping them succeed in killing eBay.

It's the most logical explanation.

Titlenius's job is done...time to move on.

I have adapted too.  I sell a lot locally now.  There's no packing, no negatives and the money is cold hard cash.  You'd be surprised at how easy it is.  And  I've found that more people that I deal with prefer to shop local because that can see what their getting before they buy it...which makes sense.

I'm proud to day that I'm eBay and Paypal free.

Sounds like despite it's statements to the contrary, eBay is finally feeling the effects of the Recession and consumers holding back from purchasing non-essentials.  Though they're downplaying the word, Reorganization is Reorganization. They aren't filling newly vacated positions, they're adding to the workloads of others - probably without additional compensation, and they're probably realizing that cutting fees for big companies who end up with lousy feedback, shilling and feedback trading wasn't such  a great idea after all.  Hiking fees on stores to make up the difference backfired as well as store sellers closed stores due to the higher FVFs on the back end and a requirement to accept only PayPal if they didn't have a merchant account of their own, and refusing to allow paper payments any longer.  Contrary to what they *say*, collecting on a bad check is a lot easier than collecting from PayPal on a disputed matter.  eBay is tightening the noose around it's own neck.  Wonder who - not as important as Stephanie Tilenius - is also *leaving eBay*.  Stocks should react accordingly, reorgs have temporary benefits to stock, but when the short-term benefits wear off, they're right back where they started.  I hope the next eBay CEO is able to save the company before it becomes an attractive acquisition target but if not, so be it.
