IMA Ex-President Redirects Website of eBay Seller Group

Attempts to visit the website of the Internet Merchant Association (IMA) this morning resulted in redirects to a page on cancunbeachresortcondo.com, a site registered to Steven Grossberg, co-founder and former president of the IMA. The page contains a message from Grossberg that he said he had posted on the IMA forum late last night, but said "it was deleted and then soon afterwards without an explanation or any communication I was banned from accessing the IMA site."

The IMA is a group of eBay and online sellers formed in 2006 by several members of the Professional eBay Sellers Alliance (PESA), including Grossberg and Ben Mandell.

The message on Grossberg's site today documents his concerns over recent Board elections and whether members elected to the board were eligible to run because, he said, they had failed to pay their dues. He confirmed that he redirected the website out of frustration that the IMA board refused to acknowledge his concerns about the elections. As he wrote on the page, "Inasmuch as I was banned from the IMA web site this was the only way to get my message out to the IMA members, as I felt everyone has the right to transparency."

Cathy Aggelopoulos, recently elected President of IMA, said the group did not ban Grossberg ("the site was down for periods through the day" yesterday) and said the board plans to consult with an attorney to see who legally owns the URL domain IMAmerchant.org. Grossberg said he purchased that domain before the creation of the organization and paid for it with his own money.

When asked how she would characterize the domain redirect, Aggelopoulos said it's up to attorneys to say if it was illegal, but that she was sickened by it. She described it as "totally out of character" for Steve not to have told them ahead of time, and believes it was irresponsible for the previous board members not to have known that he personally owned the domain name on which the site resided.

The IMA Board of Directors has since posted the IMA site, previously hosted at IMAmerchant.org, on a new domain registered today, IMAmerchants.org.

Hi Ina.  I can assure your readers that the election held by the IMA is legal and all members who ran are members of the IMA.  Please keep in mind that Steve did not attend the conference and is no longer on the Board of IMA as he chose not to run for a second term.

It is a shame he chose to redirect the domain, and we are still trying to figure out why he would do so.  However, the Board of the IMA is committed to moving the organization forward and continue educating our members and providing a forum for them to discuss ecommerce business issues.

Thanks,
Cyn Lizana
Vice President

Well we all just KNEW Steve would not give up the IMA quietly. He has always acted like the non-profit was his own property, and I was shocked when we had elections to elect a new president and he gave up his post without a fight. Well, guess what - here comes the fight. The man is an egomaniac and is out of control. He cannot stand being the person in charge of IMA any more. Absolutely sickening that he would try and sabotage the entire organization. Last year, his antics cost the IMA more than 60% of paying membership, who quit in disgust. I was hoping some of them would come back now that he is gone, but clearly he will never be gone. He is like a cancer that keeps spreading.

Hi Ina

I can assure your readers the election was not legal and not consistent with Florida state law. I suggest the new board members from IMA consult IMA's CPA who specializes in non profits and has been IMA's CPA from the beginning.

A member cannot be on the board who is not a dues paying member and whose dues were in and paid and on the books.

This will eventually come out anyway when IMA does their 1st quarter financials and has to list line by line who paid dues and on what date and show proof and nobody is authorized to accept cash except the treasurer and it must be immediately deposited to an IMA bank account.

The second hurdle will be when IMA files their 2010 tax return

Steve

Former IMA president and treasurer

STEVE Why don't you just give up the IMA and walk away? None of us want you there, especially not after this latest ordeal. You have isolated even your strongest supporters. In my opinion this is just an attempt to keep control of the IMA and at the same time drive everyone away so you can keep all the money in the bank accounts. You tried to do this last year but too many people stayed around. Now you have been ousted and we have a new honest president and it just burns you up inside that you can't call yourself the president of IMA on your bogus wall street analyst conference calls. What a loser! Once this all clears up, the IMA will be back and you will not be a part of it. We all are praying for that day to arrive. LOSER

Has anyone done more damage to the IMA over the past two years than Steve? Another home run for the man who always manages to shoot himself in the foot.

and this is exactly why I chose to not join this organization.  Great intent, except run by 'people'.  Might as well be kindergarten all over again.

We know that no matter what happens here, Steve will wrangle a position on it to manipulate the facts into his favor. Even as we speak, above, he has stated that no monies could be taken in cash unless he took the funds. This will be used later to circumvent any dues paid on those Board members who didn't pay fast enough so that he will later be able to declare that they were never certified members and therefore not officially Board members. Ultimately and surely his plan is to  put himself squarely back as a Board President member with full control.

We went through this months ago and several good honest people of integrity suffered because of it. There is no integrity in hacking the company website, manipulating facts, besmirching others, and removing Board and Committee Chairs without cause, when you don't get your way.

Maybe now, those who doubted it was true the first time will see it for what it is this time.

Were any members elected to the board behind on their dues at the time of the election? Have any of the board members paid less for their dues than the rules require?

Perhaps a better discussion here would be to ask if any Board Presidents acted improperly during their tenure. For example, it would be safe to say that back door, clandestine deals took place last year without knowledge of consent of the full Board. And the answer to that again is a resounding *YES*

So again, yes sir, the door swings both ways. No matter how you cut it, back door deals, shady dealings, improper dismissals and just plain bad business has been done here and as I've said before it was done to the demise and in spite of the efforts of good, honest people of integrity.

Seems like this blog has become the grounds for IMA infighting amongst themselves.

Just a comment to those that wanted to know what "Larry Boy" said in the PS Discussion Board.  Not much, other than to mention the several emails I received this morning telling me that I was right.  It's more fun to be a spectator than a participant.  And tell Bruce "You're welcome!"

This is exactly why no one takes PESA or IMA seriously and why they have gotten NOTHING accomplished with Ebay. These are supposed to be Ebay's biggest sellers but Ebay doesn't pay any attention to them because they are too busy bickering and thinking they have more power than they have in reality.

IMA and PESA=Joke.
