eBay's Go Green $5,000 Shopping Spree

By: Ina Steiner

Sponsored Link

A seller forwarded a promotional email from eBay with the message, "Join the Green Team and you could win a $5,000 green shopping spree." eBay recently launched the "eBay Green Team" to champion smart ways to shop green and encourages more sustainable buying choices.

The eBay Green Team initiative grew out of a grassroots effort begun in 2007 by a small group of eBay employees who wanted to put their environmental values to work. Today, more than 1,000 eBay employees in 18 countries are Green Team members, supporting environmental causes in their local communities and championing sustainable business practices within eBay. When the company needed more office space, the Green Team led eBay to construct the first building built to LEED Gold Standards in San Jose, CA, featuring the city's largest solar panel installation.

The Green Team website is here and includes a guide to buying green, selling green and other resources. You can learn more about the promotion here, which ends on April 20, 2009.

The only ''green'' that interests eBay is the green of your money. 'nuff said.

With that I'll go OT and say I do own/drive a Prius, so I'm really doing my green part already. I love that car.

Google:

Green Envronmentalism is a religeous cult

--------

These groupies ruined the US economy with a Marxist President, and you'd better buy your solar panels now because cap and trade will add $3000/year to your electric bill!

Its obvious to me these same green loonies were the ones in charge when ebay decided to destroy its seller base.

Sorry Ebay but there is nothing worth purchasing on Ebay that I can't get cheaper and better made at my local shopping center.

I support my home town not some greedy fraud laden overpriced company who does give a hoot about anyone but themselves.

Ebay will rot in ==ll before I spend another dime with them.

Bravo eBay!  I hadn't heard about their LEED gold building.  I'm sure it was all done in the interest of being green and helping the planet, no done for the huge tax savings that they received.

Those LEED certifications are all well and good, but most small businesses and home builders cannot afford to meet the LEED requirements, as the added cost can more than double the price of construction initially.

Another promotion: Yawn...

One thing: eBay is a great place to get stuff CHEAP right now. I really don't know what sellers are thinking.

I bought a couple of things dirt cheap in the last week.

Dimwitted small auction sellers are paying Feepay big bucks to almost GIVE their stuff away. It's really amazing how cheap you can buy stuff - IF you can find it.

I don't sell on eBay anymore, but I am smart enough to take advantage of the ones that do. Yeah: Start it at 99 cents & give free shipping !!!!!

:O)

Ebay Hypocricy! What else is new? They talk a good game, but are anti- "used" goods. Donahoe hates used goods. He only wants "new" on the site. That's totally NOT green philosophy.

Yup, couldn't be clearer, Ebay had an article in Internet Retailer, saying how badly they bludered going after the new market but are now refocusing on liquidations instead. No mention of what brought them to the party in the first place, rare vintage unique & used goods.
Meanwhile, in another feature, they show the average dollar volume of goods sold on Ebay has dropped 18% since November 08, and flatline over a year ago.

It's easier to come up with new marketing campaigns than it is to provide an option for a FLAT RATE PRIORITY MAIL BOX in PayPal.

Wish there was a Seller Advocate to come up with the tool promised a year and two months ago.

Slandered, cant be bothered to see the latest talking points, what is it a video of that genius Palin? I love how the Bushies tried to blame the entire last 8 years on Clinton, remember that guy that finally balanced the US budget after 12 years of fatcat cronyism? Before shrub jr threw us back in the money pit, that is.
Take a hike, pally. Sorry to get political Ina. Recycling & go green are needed steps in this country, mr SUV driver.

Ed, that's donuthole's stragety, try to retain the already POed customers rather than add new ones with advertising.

@ Ed Gadfly

"...Wish there was a Seller Advocate to come up with the tool promised a year and two months ago..."

There's been an even worse omission in the shipping table rates that's been there for AT LEAST SIX YEARS.

Ebay has been told and told and told about it, has done nothing, and probably never will. This abbreviated table costs sellers selling high dollar items a lot of money when buyers use combined shipping checkout because there is an artificially low maximum on insurance. The table fails to factor in PayPal's signature confirmation requirement on items that sold for $250.00 and up.

To expect ebay to have fixed any problem adversely affecting sellers (that doesn't also adversely affect ebay) in ONLY 14 months is pure fantasy.

As for a Seller Advocate, such complaints are casually dismissed as just so much noisy whining from sellers who lack sufficient sophistication to sell successfully on ebay.

Ebay employs no Seller Advocates -- only dumb as rocks MBAs, shill parrots, and spin artists.

Death to ebay corp. in 2009.
