eBay Gives Employee Discount on Fashion Vault Designer Goods

By: Ina Steiner

eBay launched a special marketing program this week called Fashion Vault for select sellers in which it holds 2- to 3-day sales event of clothing and accessories. The company is offering its employees a 30% "friends and family" discount they can use on the inaugural event - a 3-day sale of Cole Haan clothing from a eBay seller, "StylePremium."

Lorrie Norrington informed U.S. employees and contractors of the employee discount. The code (CFASHIONVAULTN20), which gives a 30 percent off discount on items during the sale, ending soon, has been published on Twitter (including by eBay's new fashion magazine) and on Michelle Madhok's fashion shopping blog SheFinds.com.

Ms. Norrington told employees they could share the code with their friends and family. The full news story about eBay's Fashion Vault is published on AuctionBytes.com.

I can't believe this company what this company is doing, meanwhile the small business is left in the back to try to keep up with these changes so they can have their listings seen. And when you have here them giving this company prime space on the homepage. its just unbelievable.

they are almost like segregating the small shop sellers. It's like we can't drink from the same fountain

That might explain a few things regarding Ideeli.

So a low feedback seller who has only been on Ebay since July - stylepremium (8) gets a link on every page and promoted by Ebay as a seller that ''you know and trust''.  Say what?  Does eBay even THINK before doing this?

However a closer look reveals that Stylepremium, based in New Jersey, is really a fulfillment house that works for a lot of private design labels (lower end, not the top of the line stuff like LV or Gucci).

And they were sued by one client for millions because they botched their clients business so badly.  There are a lot of complaints about the company that uses the name stylepremium on Ebay - their online name is Efashion Solutions.  Google it, you'll see the complaints.  No product (getting charged with nothing in return), wrong product, lousy and rude customer service.

Oh wait.  That's a perfect match with Ebay, isn't it?

But what is really weird about this entire promotion and the Fashion Vault page ... is the link where Ebay asks their site users to sign up for email alerts.

Has anyone looked at the URL under that link?  It's to an off Ebay website - Profood International Corp.  That's a food company out of the Philippines.  Then it reroutes you back to Ebay.

Huh?  What the heck is going on with Ebay?  Donahoe and team have lost all sense of what they're doing?  Slapping together new promotions and bells and whistles that further detract from the core site and it's core business.  And not checking out their own links and functionality to make sure it works and the Ebay user isn't directed to an OFF EBAY website?  Is it even secure?  Who writes this before going live with it?

Donahoe and team will go down in history as some of the biggest dullards and idiots.  Well deserved.  Fashioned after the model that broke the mold - Meg Whitman.

Remember Ideeli?  This reeks of the same back room deals for buddies and unknown sellers that weren't really vetted, and were not as promoted and described.  Removing negatives as a way of ensuring that specially chosen, new, unproven sellers, look good.

Truth in advertising?

Casting aside sellers that have been on the core site for YEARS building the business into what it is for a small seller that's willing to bend over and kiss Donahoe's ass.

''A seller you know and trust.''  Huh?  I'd like to hear of ONE PERSON who had heard of this seller before the Fashion Vault promotion much less trusted them.

So what is the connection here between Donahoe and this New Jersey company?   Smart people will keep looking.

Does Ebay management not get how much this is going to further drive their sellers off the site?

Ebay has lost it's identity.  It's not Amazon, it's not Rue La La or another invite only hot sale site.  It's an auction site!

When new management is brought in that can embrace what made Ebay great and expand upon it - not dilute it and destroy it - then Ebay will return to being a successful site.  If it doesn't happen soon, however, there won't be anything left to embrace.

Fashion Vault.  What bullsh*t.

*by the way, can't take credit for the research behind the seller being promoted.  The research was done by community board posters - the real brains at Ebay.

I guess JD expects the remaining eBay employees are simply going to recycle their salaries on eBay to help him make it appear as if eBay sales are growing.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Apparently anything goes through the holidays, anything to generate a few sales to try and make it look like JD's turn around plan is working.

JD wants buyers to buy into the tag line ''Come to think of it....eBay''.

Apparently he has not heard what buyers are saying...'' Anywhere but eBay''.

No, what buyers think is:

Been defrauded?  Oh you must have been on Ebay.

To add to the previous comment, the link to sign up for alerts (oxymoron there, nothing about this is ALERT), takes an Ebay user to a site called promotionexpert . com

That site is owned by Profoods International.

Brilliant.  Just brilliant.

I think its great fun to watch Donahoe and Ebay floundering all over the place.  Its kind of like watching the 800 lb gorilla slowly sinking in quicksand :-)  In the meantime...Mr. Donahoe...WHERE ARE THE HOLIDAY SHOPPERS?

Yes, I absolutely love shopping on member-only sites for saving money online. I have been finding the best deals at Rue La La and Gilt as of late. However, you have to get to the sale fairly early when it opens because these deals are selling out so fast. I’ve hesitated on buying an item I wanted and then a few hours later it was already sold out. Such is life.

Just so you know... Here are a few choice invitation codes to Members-Only shopping websites so you can check them out for yourself. Happy Shopping and Saving.
