eBay PayPal Glitch Report: Packing Slips and Shrinking Pics

By: Ina Steiner

Sponsored Link

Sellers have been complaining about PayPal's new packing slips this week. A PayPal spokesperson acknowledged that there is a problem. "The issue with packing slips was due to a coding error. We’re working on putting the old page back while we resolve the error, so it should be fixed tomorrow or very shortly afterward."

Meanwhile, searching for items in eBay's media category sometimes brings back miniature images. A seller who wrote in said the problem stems from listings that use eBay's pre-filled information in the media category. " I realize I can host my own pictures but they touted how easy it is to use ebay's pre-filled information in the media category so I now have over 1500 items listed using their stock photos and the pictures are tiny! Ebay stressed that good, large photos are a key to success and now they have these tiny photos for all media items. I believe my sales have dropped considerable since this has happened. Who is going to buy a $40 architecture book when you can hardly see the cover?"

I'm not sure when the photo problem started, I noticed it earlier this afternoon, and I took this snapshot of a random John Grisham book this evening. There's no announcement about either problem on the systems boards as of yet.

Ina, rest assured, there won't be any announcement on Ebay's boards, if it were not for you, we would never get a peek at any of the myriad problems Ebay's bad coding & firing of technical staff. I would hope they are fine tooth combing all the programming written by the laid off workers to be sure all the backdoors & intentional bugs written in by ex employees are found.

eBay's system announcement board has been severely under utilized.

Ever since eBay execs salaries were frozen at previous years levels due to horrible performance, announcements about glitches have been few and far between.

It's as though eBay executives believe they can hide the fact that implementation and execution of new features are wrought with errors, or that IT systems do not consistently function properly.

Apparently, in San Jose, the belief is that if you do not announce it, it is not happening.

Too many times users go to live help to inquire about issues only to be told that eBay is aware of the problem and they are working on it.

Asking an agent why there was no announcement about the issue on the boards designed for the purpose, and agents simply reply they have no idea.

When IT issues develop, the company policy seems to be one of denial, concealment, indifference and incompetence.

Its just as bad at PayPal.

Personally, I have been told that there is a live ticket to repair an ongoing error with one of my PayPal accounts.

That ticket was opened on JUNE 24th, with several follow ups.

As of October 16th, that first ticket remains open, the issue unresolved and the problem continues.

Typically, PayPal has no idea if or when this issue will be resolved and have no recommendations for a work around.

Donahoe's destructive innovation is not limited to policies and systems, by indifference, he is allowing the IT infrastructure to fall apart as well.

Actually Garnor Morontes said they were rolling out a new announcement board this past week. Why? They never announce any of the problems, too afraid they might have to give a few pennies back. Remember when Ebay used to extend listings free for any glitch?

Just checked out the great new announcements board, BFD. They should have taken as long on the terrible redesign of the pages & boards. Very good Garnor, you get a gold star this week. Now tell us when these problems will be fixed.

The only way to talk about Ebay doing something right is to hop into a time machine & travel back to the last century. Ebay ruled then, now it's a zombie.

I've read on the feedback board where people were complaining about getting negatives because the picture of the item made the item appear bigger than it really was.  I suppose media sellers won't be having that problem for a while.

HEY JOHN AND EBAY LET ME SAVE YOU TIME FOR NEXT APRIL / I do not need millions here it is, this should do it for you to put us sellers out of our misery, here is some idea's

( 1.) NEW RULE: TRS Policy Change / To be a Top Rated Seller you must now avoid a 1 or 2 for 999 consecutive transactions, changed and raised from the old 1 out of 199 and if  do acquire TRS status pleasing 999 customers out of 1,000 the New discount has been changed from 20% to 5 %

( 2. ) New Shipping requirements - IF your item does not reflect on tracking that it was shipped within 16 hours of purchase and delivered within 3 days that will count as a PENALTY - Check you seller dashboard, 3 items sold no delivered to a buyer within 3 days and verifiable will result in your suspension for 6 months ( This rule does not apply to large sellers or Diamond sellers, only medium , and small sellers

( 3.) BEST MATCH: will now sort by big and large sellers largest will get to the top, and get to list for FREE all others will pay to list and stay on back pages never to be seen. But if your a large seller DSR's and Net promoters, and TRS status doe not apply to you, your special and gifted

( 4. ) SELLER IDENTIFICATION Changes: Sellers you will now be required to put your full name and STREET address and phone # on your description page, to improve the buyer experience, so they know exactly who they are dealing with, and so the psychos, nutty customers who paid 95% less than a store price and competitors that want to harm us, know exactly where to find and stalk and harm us sellers ! ( Oh and don't pop your head on a video John Boy,  and say you did a study, only 1 out of ever 10,000,000  Million psychos/customers, competitors actually use the address to get or stalk a seller )

( 5. ) CUSTOMER APPRECIATION FEEDBACK RULE: Starting next release date, ALL sellers will be required to give POSITIVE feedback to the buyer within 6 hours of any purchase, any medium to small seller who does not comply to this new policy regardless of whether they get paid or not, will be suspended for 3 months from selling for 1st time offense. This new policy will be to improve the buyer experience and make them feel more special - Buyers spoke and we listened !

There you go John Boy, there is some stuff for you to think about, to help the site and buyer experience improve even more

The above post Ina was made in frustration at all the changes I have endured as a seller, and was merely my way of mocking the changes that seem to come weekly and what I put for a joke above, would not surprise me if they actually came to any of us sellers, it seems like the CEO like to up the bar higher and higher

Ebay can go take a flying leap next April, I won't have anything listed there after my final Christmas. Only 1 sale there all week & over 50 from Amazon, Ecrater.com & Bonanzle.com. I ain't junping thru any more hoops for this jerk.

As Bill Maher says, it's time for some New Rules.

Ming’s ebay Law #6

MOST GLITCHES AREN’T REALLY GLITCHES. THEY’RE SCAMS DESIGNED TO RELIEVE SELLERS OF THEIR MONEY AS SURREPTIOUSLY AS POSSIBLE.

Ming’s ebay Law #7

IF THERE’S ONE THING DEPENDABLE ABOUT EBAY, IT’S THAT THEY’RE INSTITUTIONALLY INCAPABLE OF LEARNING FROM PAST MISTAKES.

ABSOLUTELY LEAVE THE PLATFORM ALONE IN THE 4TH QUARTER AND RESIST ALL URGES TO MAKE CHANGES IN THE OTHER THREE. NO ONE NEEDS YOUR 'IMPROVEMENTS.'

Hypthetically, if I were filing an SEC complaint, I'd strongly consider:

--False or misleading statements about a company (including false or misleading SEC reports or financial statements)

-- Stock price manipulation to enrich executive with stock options? Note that ebay has had several consecutive quarterly losses yet their stock has more than doubled and they've been buying up their own stock.

-- More insider trading like Neg Meg Whitman was caught doing?

-- Employees like Richard Brwer-Hay issuing incorrect and misleading public statements that could easily have the effect of deceiving investors (he was caught once, rememeber?)

consumer complaints to the Attorney Generals against ebay/PayPal should be directed to the California and Nebraska
Attorney general's Office Divison of Consumer complaints. Complaints could include PayPal holds on seller funds, ebay billing issues, PayPal confiscation of seller property, etc. PayPal complaints should be directed to both attorney generals' office, and
ebay complaints should be sent to California.

General comments:

-- Emails and phone calls are fine, but SNAIL MAIL has more impact. PLEASE send all complaints with regular USPS mail.

-- When filing and mailing WRITTEN complaints, spring for an extra envelope and stamp and send a copy to the San Jose Better Bureau. Little will come of it, BUT ebay MUST file a written response.

-- Rep. Waxman has the ability to hold public hearings on the conduct of a business or industry. He has the power to subpoena executives past and present, past and present rank and file employees, and records. Consider the possibilities :-)

9. Ebay operates in all 50 states. Therefore sending copies of complaints or filing directly with your state's attorney general's office will make a difference if they receive enough complaints. Your can find your attorney general and consumer protection

Anti trust? Are you kidding? Are you saying you have NO alternative but to deal with eBay? Are you saying that whatever it is they are doing is SO detrimental to Consumers that we should sick government agents on them?

Geez, talk about a lack of perspective.
