Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman Gifts $5 Million in Stock

By: Ina Steiner

Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman gave away 200,000 shares of eBay stock last week, valued at about $5 million. In addition, she sold 37,500 shares for $948,277.51.

As a member of eBay's Board of Directors, Whitman is required to file notices of stock transactions with the Securities and Exchange Commission, but the names of recipients of stock gifts do not appear on filings. Whitman and her husband created the Griffith R. Harsh IV and Margaret C Whitman Charitable Foundation 2 years ago, a likely recipient of last week's stock gift.

The couple had donated 300,000 shares of eBay stock to the foundation in 2006, with an estimated fair market value of $9.4 million at the time.

Whitman stepped down from eBay in March and is thought to have a remote chance of being named number two on the GOP ticket for John McCain, on whose campaign she works.

Chump change for her.

I doubt very much if McCain would pick her for a running mate.

The recipient(s) of the shares had better sell them while they are still worth some money.  Won't be long before they're worthless.

Vice President Meg?  I'd make a campaign contribution, but I don't think they're accepting checks or money orders now... only PayPal.

Not as remote as some people may think.

The charitble donation was a beginning opener for her future possible campaign storage chest. If not now, then LATER. Where else would she get the money to run for ANYTHING? That includes any ideas for running for anything such as Senate, House, or Governor. She has hopes of being a control freak in a larger sense than she's had the opportunity for, so far.

The trouble is, if her plans for ebay last year fail, she will not have money to run in the near future.

To bad she doesn't donate some of it back to Ebay. Maybe then they could hire some intelligent programers to fix all the glitches. Ebay is circling the drain.

McCain needs someone who knows hot to run a country not an ex CEO of a failing corp. McCain needs someone who has been in political trenches not a lobbyist advocate. If he wants to lose then put Meg on the ticket. She has no political clout and knows very little about politics in the true form. Hiring lobbyists and kissing politicians ass she knows hot to do. But run a country I doubt it. McCain will be foolish to choose a VP who ran a corporation and has no real political experience at all. He will be saying to the public we don’t care and it’s about money only. It’s like when Bush appointed his cleaning lady to the Supreme Court. It will be a political suicide for McCain to appoint a none political person to the VP. It will turn any blue collar people against him. He needs someone who can turn the blue collar vote for him. That will be his chance at winning.

FYI, I am all for OBAMA.

The mere thought of a VP Whitman who could become President if McCain is elected and unable to serve a full term is enough to freeze the blood in my veins.

Such a funny (but creepy) thought:
She would stop the printing of US currency and demand that all Americans use PayPal.  Of course only after first declaring that ''the US has no intention of going PayPal only''.

Why, folks, if you watched the Olympics then you heard Meg Whitman proclaim not once but dozens of times:

"I AM AMERICAN BUSINESS. I WATCH CNBC."

Meg Whitman presided over the world's largest venue for the sale of stolen merchandise and the world largest purveyor of pornography.

Her escape was well timed. She knew several years ago that stock value based on a model of continual fee increases was a recipe for disaster.

So she and Bill Cobb and all the rest of these corporate sleaze bags milked this fatally flawed business model for all it was worth and when it predictably and inevitably began to fail, they bailed.

Meg Whitman and Ken Lay are the poster children for ALL that is ethically reprehensible in corporate America and the transglobal marketplace.

But people like Meg Whitman insulate themselves from reality. She probably has little or no idea whatsoever of how widely reviled she's become.

She should run for governor. Ebay has made so many enemies that legions will work overtime digging up every tasty little morsel of her past. And that will end her political career, and maybe she'll move to Dubai.

It is appalling that this ''guilded age'' in which we live rewards the sloven, and the arrogant. Yes, this moment in time has been labeled the guilded age. The time when corporate greed has met new heights to make CEO low-life a class unto themselves.

I watched a senate committee on CSPAN as they were questioning the CEO of the large mortgage bank that defaulted on 1,000's of home loans, putting hard working poeple on the street homeless. He asked the CEO (that had a golden parachute of 700 million) He asked him: How much is enough? Is a person that makes a billion dollars a year going to be enough? And the whole panel of corporate thugs just shrugged there shoulders in disbelief that someone had the actual gall to ask that question.

FACT: Not since 1920 has the diparity between the rich and the poor within the USA, been so far apart.

Meg Whitman is not a leader. I know everybody likes to lead, or at least thinks they can lead. But, a great leader is NEEDED. Mccain, Whitman, Bush they are not great leaders. Leaders have a great spirit, leaders are true to there values, great leaders do not compromise integrity.

We do not need a bunch of arrogant, self-involved, hypocrites in washington any longer. We need leadership. This great country is being abused by the wealthy, the power elite, for there own selfish gains.

When is it going to stop?

Meg Whitman and the like actually beleive, that they are worth the ungodly sums of money that they are paid. BULLSHIT! This country is being eroded by the wealthy. Not all, but it is troubling to watch.

I have a drastic idea that would cure this problem, but it will never get passed into law. I would make a law that no person could make more than 250,000 dollars in a year.

It's time to stop the extreme wealth, it causes to much injustice within society to have the poeple with everything, and the have nothing's.

We need to level the playing field. I agree that america should be the land of opportunity, but it should apply to more than the just the top 10% of this countries poeple. If you cannot live a comfortable life on 250K per year, then your dreaming. It would stop all of this inequality at the beginning of the food chain. The arrogance....

FACT: Rich poeple can buy freedom, but the poor cannot.

Some salary controls need to be applied, just because it's a free market system (hogwash) doesn't mean that you have a right to be paid a kings ransom. It corrupts. It distorts freedom. Even now some poor soldier is getting ther arms blown off, while the rich cat decides which caviar the maid will serve tonight.

It's a sick world, and it's not fair, and I guess that in the end is the excuse the rich think about at times.

To all the rich and connected in the world, I offer this shout out.... You are not special, you are not better than the rest. Grow up on your own time, don't involve me. Having wealth does not make great poeple, great poelple know this, and some are broke.

Rich is not everything, and that is entirely evident in our current president. What an a-hole monster, he is emotionally bankrupt. I wonder if after he leaves office if they'll impeach him for war crimes?

Whatever happens let's hope he gets his just rewards for the lives of so many poeple broken in vain.

GRUMPY

No Grumpy, we shouldn't cap how much a person can make.  We should pass into law that every person that seeks public assistance such as food stamps be required to registered to vote. Then required to take a course on the political parties so that all these simple minded people learn the difference between Democrat, Republican, Independent and Libertarian. Meg as Barbara WA Wa would say, is an ''evil republican''.
