Glitch Strikes eBay Australia Home Page

By: Ina Steiner

Sponsored Link

eBay Australia's Home Page has been replaced with simply a list of categories, and welcomes a user with the ID Step 00001 no matter who visits the page, and whether they are signed in or not. Users began discussing the problem on the eBay Australia discussion board, wondering why it said "G'day Step00001." Some wondered if it posed a security problem. A moderator responded, telling users, "Please note that we have found that it is affecting the Home Page only and you should still be able to sign in and use the rest of the site as normal."

Hi, I'm an ebayer who had this happen. There are now several threads discussing this as well, and one includes a post with a link to this blog here :)

Thanks Ina, interesting. As far as I can see this was first reported on the forums at around 5pm local time. It's now some 8+ hours later and the homepage still says *G'day (step00001)!*
No word about it in the eBay Announcements, and I haven't seen anymore comments from a pink in the board discussions ... what's happening eBay? Are you hacked? ... or just asleep? And who is this Step0001 anyway...? An Australian eBay employee, it seems...? Ebays glitches are getting weirder by the day, lol

update, about 9 hours after the glitch started: it seems to have been solved now, no more "G'day step00001!" and the homepage looks normal again.
Still no word about it in the Announcements however.

Maybe a hacker has made his way into eBay's system.  Or maybe with all the changes eBay has been making recently, the uploads are running into each other!
