Will Tax Rebates Stimulate Your Online Sales?

By: Ina Steiner

Wondering when to expect a possible spike in sales due to those US tax-rebates, aka economic stimulus payments? According to the IRS:

Economic stimulus payments will be issued according to the last two-digits of the main filer's Social Security number. People who use direct deposit also will be among the first to receive the payments starting May 2. Paper checks will be put in the mail starting May 16.

You can see the chart here.

Remember not to get scammed by spoofers and phishers pretending to be the IRS! And FYI, senior citizens can get rebates (generally $300 rather than $600) even if they don't normally file taxes and only receive social security - they have until October 15 to file, and are entitled to do their part to stimulate the economy too!

Happy online selling (and shopping)!

The rebate will help pay for the spike in gasoline costs I put in my car. It's that whole rob Peter to pay Paul thing. I hate bandaids and I think the whole rebate is a sham. How about not getting our country in this mess in the first place. It's costing nearly a billion just to administer the thing.

Basic math tells me that you don't run your house on credit. Why would we run our country on Bank of China?

Corporate greed, a flawed Wall Street system and a permission slip to raise prices on everything. I don't think the economy is going to recover anytime soon.

I think Americans are hurting much more than $600 will ever cure.

I have BILLS TO PAY. I don't plan on just blowing this money on something stupid I really don't need. This really shows you what kind of Admonistration we have in Washington. God, I can't CAN'T WAIT until that guy is GONE.

Absolutely not.

People spend money not because they have a few bucks in the wallet, but the prospect that they will have more money to spend tomorrow.

Gas has more than doubled in a years time. Living costs have went up across the board. The average families cost of living has gone up at least $150 a month x 1 year = $1,800 not $600

How is it that 70% of this country wants the killing to end, yet nobody responds? Yet with no prodding by the public, like majic ''poof'' they give people a rebate check??

Republican election year...F'rs... Nobody for 1 minute should ever believe that this goverment cannot do the right thing in a nano-second. They absolutely can, but when you're the  troll feeding off of a system that favors you, then why bother?

Turn your head and cough...
Ignore the low life living in a cardboard box...
It's they're own fault, this is America...

John Mccain is 72 years old, but if I wanted to work past 65 they'd force me out of my job? Am I wrong??

John Mccain is the republican nominee by default, simply because they could not shove Mitt Romney down everybody's throat with Meggy at his side.

When the economy is kind to 70% of the people it works for most, but now you've got less than 50% participating in a positive way, and losing ground.

I see price gouging going on at the grocery store. I realize everything's went up, but the cost of gas is not that extreme on the food supply to cause item prices to jump 1/2 price.

Ebay parallels the current US regime in alot of ways. No hotline, canned responses, aloof. Tuff shit somebody's got to suffer, everybody can't have it all, but we're sure glad it's not us!

Don't say anything, maybe the poor folks will go away. or we'll just ignore them awhile longer.

More people have got to be plugged into the economy. It's never been a fair system, but the outright greed, and indifference from the ruling class has got to be stopped if possible.

Yes, I did not say democracy.

Weeeeeeeeee....

I think some people will spend their "economic incentives".  There are people who don't understand the concept of saving.  As for me, well, I'll put most of mine toward bills.  It's sad when you make 6 figures and can't get much ahead of the bills.  I'm still paying down debts from a couple years ago when I was out of work for nearly 2 years (the dot com bust was hell on us techies) and was living on credit cards.  All those drops in interest rates sure haven't filtered down to my credit cards.  I had high hopes that eBay would help me in paying those debts off, but I end up paying them more than I get back, so all those hours of work are for naught.  Who wants to spend hours running auctions only to barely break even?

Those guys in the Middle East are probably laughing through their turbans as our economy tumbles.  It truly sucks to be dependent on people who hate our guts for our energy needs.  My gas and electric bills have tripled in the last 2 years.  I, for one, am planning to buy an electric car as soon as I can save enough to afford one.  The same goes for solar panels on my house.  Of course, it would help if I could actually make money on eBay :-)

In a word, No.

Traffic is so slow on eBay and Best Match is such a dismal failure nothing is going to help stimulate sales until eBay gets a clue.....and judging from eBay's past, I doubt that will be in the near future.
