eBay UK is holding a 5p insertion-fee sale for auction-style listings this weekend. From December 27 - 28, 2008, private sellers who list items in an eligible category using the Auction-style or Auction with Buy It Now format on eBay.co.uk will pay a reduced Insertion Fee of 5 pence per listing. Only items listed in British Pounds Sterling on eBay.co.uk are eligible. See website for details and restrictions.

In other news, Amazon.com reported that 2008 was its best holiday season. Over 6.3 million items were ordered worldwide on its peak day, December 15, 2008, and Amazon shipped to over 210 countries.

What do you suppose is a "private seller"?

"No soup for you" US sellers... You've been bad, and very noisy this year.

I think private means casual seller type folks....not power seller types that have do business on ebay regularly and have paypal business accounts.

I may be wrong about what "private" is refering to, but that's how I read it.

I think it is amazing that Amazon has now trumped eBay across the board.  And while eBay and Az are different, it is testament to Amazon's ability to operate effectively, make good choices ahead of the curve, and provide customer's with great service all at the same time.   Oh, that eBay could just do one of those at any time.

JD has put a lot of sellers in the soup lines this year. Maybe he'll be joining them in 2009.

More bad, more noise.

ya gotta wonder where ebay is headed - a 5p insertion fee! whoopee! More encouragement to a ton'o tat clogging the innards. Add this to Ebay's active discouragement of sellers of anything of value and ebay really does become more and more a junk store. Too bad, they had a kick at being the world's auction house, but they seem to have lost it. As a long time seller I no longer risk selling anything valuable - the buyers have total control and can get a refund and keep the item. Really! OK for little things but not anything good. The high disposable income "eyeballs" are largely gone, as ebay, I think, didn't understand its demographic, and that a lot of those despised and actively discouraged small sellers were in real life pretty well off - who else would pay $2500 for a toy dinky toy plane  :+)

I'm glad that Amazon beat ebay in the fixed price retail and books sales over the holidays! It's music to my ears!

Now, ebay is stuck with what's left of the auction community who is still desperate enough to stick araound and take their abuse. Lets see how long THAT lasts when a BETTER auction site for antiques, vintage, estate, and collectibles finally wins center stage!

It won't be long, folks! Ebay has already burnt their bridges with the all  the best collectibles sellers in the world. It will be easy to win them all if the right site comes along with the right search engines!

When that day comes, we can all celebrate together!

Happy New Year to all the EX and Present ebayers who are waiting for the right moment to jump ship. May we all be blessed with an open invitation from a place that welcomes us with open arms and lots of profitable sales!

I agree with o.c.d collectibles. Ebay is getting hit hard with other online sites. I think SeeAuctions.com will beat them in the antique and collectible market. This is a very fast growing site with some great things to bid on. They have hit all the things ebay lost are new ideas eBay never had. Plus eBay will never be able to match the rates SeeAuctions.com charges. 2009 is going to be a very hard year for eBay. Check it out if you buy sell or trade antiques and collectibles. The site is WWW.SEEAUCTIONS.COM Time to jump ship wishing you all a great NEW YEAR with great sales and not paying most of your profit to some body that just hosts your listing.
