Rumor of New eBay Diamond PowerSeller

By: Ina Steiner

Sponsored Link

There is a fair amount of speculation about eBay's new Diamond PowerSellers program and which merchants might be coming on board. Sellers are concerned since eBay negotiates one-on-one with Diamond PowerSellers, granting them deals that might make it difficult for existing eBay sellers to compete with them. (See New York Time article, "Buy.com Deal With eBay Angers Sellers.)

A source had told us that eBay was working with ChannelAdvisor to bring Shoplet.com onto the site under the Operation Catalog program. A review of Shoplet's eBay listings today reveals they loaded over 2,000 listings onto eBay in the last few weeks. The Shoplet account on eBay has only two feedback, both from sales made last week.

We have not confirmed that Shoplet is a Diamond PowerSeller, but those sellers listing items in the office supply category might do well to keep an eye on this new competitor, who lists 200,000 items on its own site.

I also was passed along another rumor that eBay's Seller Onramp and Outreach are no longer offering their services to sellers below Platinum status. eBay is no longer assisting with marketing to anyone without an account manager under these programs, according to the source, who said that sellers can still set up appointments, but they will not be given assistance. If anyone has more information about this rumor, please let me know.

Shoplet's minimum $7.50 S&H will be a major barrier to a high shipping DSR #.

@ Jeff

Look at "BUY" their feedback and DSR's are very poor!  It doesn't matter when you have eBay's blessing and ZERO listing fee's

I feel bad for all the sellers this will effect.  Just another category down the drain...

How do those people at eBay sleep at night???

Just another example of poor leadership at e bay.

Things are not happy under new management/John Donahoe management has made no one happy, sellers or buyers or its investors.  It has been a 6 month meltdown since new management  fumbled a working system.
It is interesting how the 1500 employee lay off received so much attention, however, OVER 10% of total powersellers were laid off/suspended because of flawed aggressive policy poorly implemented has not had a placement.  This is proved by http://blog.sellerdome.com/?p=16  between 15k-30K e bay powersellers who account for $3000-$20,000 in seller fees paid each month for each of those sellers.   This seems a larger story than a simple layoff of e bay employees.

Donahoe apparently thought they asked him if he wanted to "RUIN" the business when they offered him the ebay CEO position, not "RUN" the business!

It is becoming more and more apparent (or should I say ''transparent'') that Ebay is on its way to become just a shopping/advertising portal and with their acquisition of Bill Me Later combined with PayPal, they will become one of the largest, if not the largest, online payment/credit processor in the next 2 years. I would not be surprised if they sold or shut down the Ebay marketplace in the next 12-18 months.

What I truly do not understand is how Diamond PowerSellers are given Diamond Status without earning it first?
Don't ALL seller accounts have selling limits you have to hit and prove to ebay that you can handle to higher sales you achieved?
My TopSeller Manager told me about these limits years ago.
That is why you can't go from Bronze to Platinum in 1 month......
Maybe I am wrong...( ? )

Who's next? Uline?

Ebay is intentionally doing the smackdown on small sellers who not in a million years could compete. Ebay is just a branch of the companies websites. Ebay has officially lost its identity.

It' so obvious what Satan is doing, I'm mean JD, and they are using the small sellers to keep them afloat until they bring every possible diamond seller on board.

CLOSE YOUR STORES NOW!!

CLOSE YOUR NON-FDIC INSURED PAY PAL ACCOUNTS!!

DON''T EVER USE BILL ME LATER!!

Do this now, before they suckle the new China garbage giants into the site to take your place. If you just stop using the evil, they will eventually die!

Are you going to wait until these demon spawns hand you your pink slip?

They will!! When they're done with you. Your just helping them kill you off and allowing them to steal your money.

Diamond sellers pay squat as it is now. It's all about PPC advertising, incentives and GREED!!

They're such low-life, yellow cowards they won't tell you the truth until they suck you dry!!!

I have never in my life seen a more evil company other than Enron.

Wow - So they have over 2300 items so far, including item  170271758122  which is a $1.00 50 page pocket memo notebook... along with a $7.50 shipping charge.  From what I see you can't even buy more than one of them at a time.  I wonder if they get the same message I do when ebay thinks their shipping charges are too high?

Is it any wonder eBay doesn't want to help the little guy anymore? That's their focus after all.

I went through their Onramp Program and was considering their Outreach program to help with the holiday selling.

Well, that's out, because I don't have an account manager.

And I swear next time I hear a Powerseller rep ask "How's your business doing?" I'm going to explode.

All their suggestions are the same. It's like they were spoon fed lines in a 30 minute training class by someone who has never sold anything in his life.

I wonder how fast the average users account would go NARU if they listed 2,000+ items over 1 weekend?
O - and don't you have to have a FEEDBACK OF 5 in order to do Buy It Now items?
WOW - I guess the rules don't apply to everyone.

How can they be Powersellers, let alone diamond, they haven't sold anything get.  Everyone else, except Buy has had to earn their Power Seller Status.  Plus power sellers have just about had to abide by the same rules as the rest of us, but they get little benefits  the higher up they go.

But these guys are brought in with power seller status and haven't done a dang thing, let alone pay for listing.

It's the big guys they should be charging and making their money off of, not the middle class.

Reminds me of some politicians.

anything that has Scott's stamp of approval on it will have numbers that will be modified by ebay to fit their diamond powerseller rules. If you are familiar with "toolhaus" as a tool to check a seller's past feedback history, and read their types of complaint patterns, you can see the way buyers have experienced negative  transactions with a company as a whole. I used one of  Mr Scot's clients who posts that she is under channel advisor, and her feedbacks were so long and bad, that toolhaus almost shut down and it did actually "time out" at 127! The seller was kool jewelry so you can look for yourself. Someone was monkeying around with her dsr's there's no way they can be what they are. Ebay has some pretty rotten sellers that they keep around that appear to give buyers very bad experiences. It's no wonder the stock has tanked so low. They pay a fortune of money to advertisers and sellers who really aren't worth it. Oh well! (put the two names together before you place it in toolhaus to check)

I totally dont agree they should be Diamond status before they've even sold on ebay.

These retail guys dont know what their getting into. Ebay customers are VERY VERY picky. On average, we have 100 e-mails from ebay customers/day and only 10 from Amazon customers. Return rate for buyers remorse is the same.

It's great CA is taking them on and throwing them a bone to get them going, but CA cant run their company. Its a tool that helps a company but does not run it.

Unfair competition? To oldskool ebayers, it may seem this way. But you have to realize, its the bad apples from these smaller sellers that have turned these popular categories to a poor selling experience.

I've done some conveyer belt and SQL work with the ebay company MonsterCellular and you might be hearing about them next. Last time I did work they were doing 500K+/month and were only in there first 10 months of operations on ebay full time.

I think more and more will come and ebay SHOULD be picky about who gets diamond status just like Amazon.

Just go ahead and face it, a company with a no questions asked return policy, ships same day and has a toll free number to call for customer service IS the buying experience ebay is going after. If you dont do the above, ebay will phase you out.

If ebay is deliberately tampering/manipulating the DSRs of the clientws of favored third party vendors like Sir Scot, then this is a CRIME!

While it's certainly unethical, it's also ILLEGAL!

If ebay is deliberately tampering with certain sellers' listings as I suspect they are, this isn't merely unethical. It's a CRIME!

Write DoJ and demand a full scale investigation of ebay.

Death to ebay corp.
