eBay Hong Kong Calls Zero-Feedback Seller 'Most Outstanding'

By: Ina Steiner

A seller sent us a link to a list of eBay Hong Kong Award Winners for Most Outstanding Business Seller. He writes, "Check out some of the award winners, there are members with 0 feedback, many that did not trade during 2007, others that have poor feedback profiles and have even had PS status suspensions. There is no published criteria etc for the award and the whole thing makes a farce of eBay's standards. I have asked ebay.com.hk for more information on this award and it has fallen on deaf ears. I hope maybe you can find out more."

Sure enough, if you do a search for the User ID aquasupply on eBay.com, it shows the seller registered in September 2007 and has zero feedback. It's not that the Hong Kong site is new - eBay launched it in 2003.

The HEAD of Trust & Safety on eBay UK has heralded a new way of dealing with those that violate eBay's listing policies.

They DON'T get their listings removed and kicked off of eBay to swim in the mire where scum like that belong.

No, RICHARD (DICK) AMBROSE has told us that these ''exorbitant P&P over-chargers'' (Dick's words, not mine) will have their search engine results tweaked.

Bill Cobb says ''stop this practice, or you're no longer welcome on eBay.''

Dick, Head of UK T&S, says ''On eBay.co.uk, we have already reduced the visibility of sellers who offer unfair postage and packaging charges''

NICE ONE DICK.

I emailed Ebay last year over one of these Hong Kong sellers.  The seller in question was a powerseller - selling mostly watches.  He had a 98.7 feedback rating and yet had the Ebay banner for being a most outstanding business!!!!  I never got an answer.  Just shrugged it off because afterall isn't Ebay riddled with fraud and deception and bad sellers?  This was just one more....and one more reason buyers leave the site!

I pulled even more data on these Awared winners.

Came up with the following out of the total 139 awarded  :
Number of 0 Feedback Ebayers = 16
Number of NARU Ebayers = 10
Number of Ebay IDs not even on Ebay = 9
Average feedback all = 81.0%
Average Feedback (zero feedback members removed) = 98.6%

I bought few jewelry pieces from Hong Kong seller through eBay. All were listed as 14k solid gold and in 14k solid gold category. All were fake. Not gold at all. Reported to eBay several times and no response.

Hi Ina, surely this is a joke, just to see if we are watching eBay Hong Kong. It must be a publicity stunt, because not even eBay could be silly enough to publish a list like this, could they?

If this is an official post, it must have been hijacked by Vladuz, surely. I cannot believe that even eBay could be foolish enough to post a list that includes ids that have zero feedback, NARUs and non existant users as their top international sellers from Hong Kong.

Is it possible to contact the TSAM team for Hong Kong and ask the question? I'm sure there would be many hard working 'genuine' sellers that would like to hear the explanation for the sellers on this list.

Keep up the great work, Cheers Bruce

It does seem incredible that eBay would post this information - as others have noted, not even eBay could be silly enough to publish a list like this.

Sadly enough, eBay IS stupid enough.  Anyone else remember the PSOTM debacle?

Is it possible that people were asked to nominate eBay members for the awards? The fact that there are so many similar names suggests that they are probably run by the same person - and that they have nominated themselves for an award.

This is just one example of how far eBay.com.hk & the core site will go to keep these sellers sweet:

User ID besthobbysite-co-uk

ID is in violation of policy & has been reported on a number of occasions. eBay.com.hk acknowledge teh report and state this appropriate action has been taken. so why then has it remained unchanged when it could not possibly be grandfathered.

This seller persistently violates fee circumvention policy with grossly excessive postage charges. These have been regularly reported and acknowledged and yet nothing is done.

Does this therefore mean that the International Seller Award for 2007 included an immunity clause.

Try it for yourselves.....

Rich

I am a registered seller with ebay hong kong. My ebay account has been partly blocked by ebay hong kong (I cannot list or relist my items). They say there is a new policy between hong kong and china (called cross border certification), and they call that  additional certification. A seller has to certify his accout by supplying them a soft copy of his/her ID card (front and back), personal photo, and a proof of residential address. I have done this but i still don't think that is right. Please help me before some people defraud me. Is this a new policy of ebay hong kong?
