A Half.com seller writes that using the email service when getting an order, sellers are now required to list a Delivery Confirmation number in order for Half.com to send an email to the buyer confirming the sale. "They used to state any lines left blank are ignored - THAT is no longer true. Started about 2 days ago or so we noticed. They will not send the email confirming orders unless all lines are filled in now."
He continued, "We do not use Delivery Confirmation on every order, as most sellers do not, esp for small ticket items at .75 or 1.00 plus the shipping, which should be increased not decreased as this case."
I checked the Half.com Announcement Board and didn't see any announcements about new DC policies. I checked the Half.com Shipping Policy page, and under this header, "Seller Shipping Options and Reimbursement Allowance - Books, Music, Movies, Games and Game Systems," I found the following:
All sellers listing in Half.com's Books, Music, Movies or Games categories must use at a minimum U.S. Postal Service Media Mail to ship orders. In addition, all sellers in these product categories have the option of offering an expedited form of shipping as an upgrade to ship orders. Expedited shipping methods should provide a 1-3 day delivery window from the time of shipping and include some type of tracking ability. If a seller chooses to offer an expedited upgrade, this option will be made available to the buyer in the shopping cart. Examples of expedited service include USPS Priority Mail, Fed Ex Home Delivery, UPS Ground, Airborne Express Ground Delivery.
Later on the page under "Packaging" it says:
Insured and trackable shipping is very important to make certain that a seller is protected from loss. ... Half.com will not reimburse sellers for loss resulting from damaged or missing packages.
It does not appear Half.com is increasing the shipping reimbursement to sellers to cover the extra cost of delivery confirmation. Nor does it actually say DC is now required. Comments from experienced Half.com sellers are welcome. Buy DC, or as this seller suggests may happen, will sellers now put in fake DC numbers in the field?
Update 1/18/08: Commenters are saying this is a glitch related to the new integration that allows Half.com sellers to use PayPal shipping labels. See also this thread, though no eBay/Half.com rep has yet responded as of this writing. Thanks for the comments, keep 'em coming!
