Google 'Suspect' Kicked out of eBay Conference

Google Blogoscoped reports that two men were ejected from eBay's gala celebration during eBay Live. The person who witnessed the ejection said eBay security escorted the two from the dance floor on Saturday night.

A trusted source told me separately (before the Google Blogoscoped post) that he saw the other side of the story - he was standing outside smoking when "four big burley security guys were ushering a guy who was protesting loudly. He was wearing a Google polo shirt and backpack and was complaining loudly that he didn't work for Google and eBay was a Gestapo and should believe in competition. I looked at his badge and it was a guest badge he didn't have an eBay username. I couldn't talk to him because he wouldn't stop screaming at everyone one who would listen, but he had a friend with him who told me he used to intern at Google and that's where he got the shirt."

eBay Live is virtually over, and what does eBay get out of this incident? The satisfaction of knowing they MIGHT have kicked out a Google employee from their event?

The incident is reminiscent of eBay forcing a protester at eBay Live 2004 in New Orleans from the sidewalk in front of the convention center to the median strip. Nancy Spaulding was protesting eBay's billing glitches.

According to this blog http://mystorespace.blogspot.com/2007/06/mystorespace-launches-at-ebay
-live-but.html
the two ejected were with MyStoreSpace.com and part of their eBay experience included being harrased by Gary Briggs, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for eBay North America.

And yet eBay claims the pulling of ads from Google was an experiment.  Yeah, sure it was *rolls eyes*.

All of this reminds me of the eBay vs. Alibaba incident in Vegas.

There is always more then one side to a situation and I know just as many people that love Ebay as that dislike them.  No matter how strongly someone feels about a situation, trying to force others to think the same way they do can't end well.

Sounds like you "trusted source" was talking about me.  However her facts are somewhat distorted.  I was NOT protesting loudly.  We were almost ready to leave the party anyhow when we received some "help" so we were not struggling or even arguing with the bouncers.  I did hear someone shouting words like "Gestapo" but it was an excited onlooker who took up our cause - not me.

Given the attire its execs were sporting, who knew eBay enforced a dress code at its convention?

Who'd eBay hire for security?  Off-duty science fiction fans?
