Day One of eBay DevCon Wraps Up

By: Ina Steiner

The first day of the eBay developers conference saw news about eBay San Dimas, eBay Web Services along with some PayPal and Skype developer news. This is a warm-up to the main event, eBay Live, which kicks off on Thursday.

Author Julia Wilkinson is part of this year's AuctionBytes News Team again and has been sending back some great photos from the developer's conference. Julia is also reporting on her own blog, so be sure and read it for updates throughout the week.

I've conducted several podcasts, and hope to do quite a bit more. I'm scheduled to interview John Donahoe and Max Mancini on Tuesday, Meg Whitman on Friday, and Bill Cobb on Saturday. We'll also be videotaping the keynote address on Thursday evening.

I'm looking forward to moderating a panel on multi-channel selling on Friday at the BuySafe lunch. This is a very timely topic, and I look forward to learning some things to bring back and share with AuctionBytes readers.

For those wondering about San Dimas, you can sign up for beta access. It's a new desktop application from eBay: "It provides a new search interface, a fun way to bid, access to your personal eBay history, and much more."

eBay fed attendees during the Beer Bash at the end of the day, and were then bussing them to see the Blue Man Group at the Charles Playhouse. I took the train home (we're based in the Boston suburbs!), but Julia may have something to say about that on her blog!

Please ask Whitman and Cobb about the ongoing banner advertising on ebay (specifically, the corporate ads that seem to be in conflict of interest with the ebay sellers). The best example is your recent cite of the NETFLIX ad coming up when you did a Sopranos DVD search. Ask them how sellers on ebay are supposed to respond now to this....better yet, ask them what THEY would do if THEY were a DVD seller on ebay in 2007, in the face of this....
Keep up the great work, us sellers really appreciate everything you do for us!
