OT: Online Reputations

By: Ina Steiner

I read the story of the disgruntled eBay buyer trashing someone's reputation online:

"Revenge of the eBay customer sold "faulty" laptop," Daily Mail, 5/30/06 (Link) and "Police eBay probe," ITV, 5/30/06 (Link).

An interesting start-up company might be in this area - cleaning up people's reputations. Think of all those teenagers' MySpace pages, for example, some of which are sure to be embarrassments for them when potential employers Google them in a few years.

I can see people hiring a firm to wipe out embarrassing information about them (whether it's true or not) on the Internet. Perhaps firms like Kroll already offer this service,....

Or maybe websites like MySpace will make more money in 3-5 years than they make now by charging users for permanently deleteing their pages!
