By: Ina Steiner

In a case that parallels the Tiffany lawsuit against eBay for allowing sales of counterfeit goods on its site, Craigslist is being sued over discrimanatory housing listings:

I think that it's insane to believe that Craigslist would have the ability to police every ad that was placed on their sites.  Get a life!!

I think a that there should be a different LEVEL/standard of accountability in online venues (versus Print).   Yes it would be insane for Craigslist to police every ad.  But I beleive that Craigslist must make a "reasonable effort" to prevent fraud, civil rights violations and the like.  If it can be proven that they make a "reasonable effort" (then and only then) that if some infringing ads slip through the cracks they should not be held liable.  Perhaps they could use "Thingfinder" by Inxight or some other automated artificial intelligence product in conjunction to a taxanomy that could be provodided by  public interst groups

It seems that Craiglist is a very hot topic these days. We can't stop it since it is one of the popular sites for house listings.

Craiglist should not be liable against any ads that appear on them.
