Online Auctions of a Live Kind

My friend Gary Sohmers is using ProxiBid for his auction today. He was planning on doing a live auction tonight at his place in Framingham, Massachusetts, but the building inspector was unable to issue an occupancy permit for the auction hall. So Gary put his items in ProxiBid's system online. You can view and place bids now, and the auction "begins" at 7pm Eastern tonight, with 5 lots closing every 5 minutes until the end of the 250 lots. Registration can be online, by phone or in person, and bidders can also bid by phone or email during the closing.

Gary's real-live auctions are always entertaining, so I'll miss that aspect. But the online aspect is certainly convenient.

I'm hoping Gary will let us know what he thinks of the experience. You can learn more about Gary's auction here (link) and you can see the lots here (link). You can visit ProxiBid online (link).

Gary here ... I hope everyone gets the opportunity to experience Proxibid's auction system ... it is linear, in real time, smooth and fluid operation and everyone that was involved (especially the winning bidders) have told us that they were entertained while bidding ... as the fingers at the controls for the sale, I found it simple to operate while speaking ... speaking of speaking, some of my worst best jokes worked online interactively as fingers jumped to bid when the puchline struck nerves ... I was able to adjust the bid increments catering to the bidders ... I had a live preview and attracted 50+ registered particpants who either left written bids or were called on the phone to partcipate live against the web and left bids ... we were very happy with our first sale topping $10,000.

Our next Proxibid system sale will be Sat. Feb. 11 featuring Ephemera, Art,
Posters, Books and Magazines, followed by an Antique and Collectible Toy and Childhood Memories Auction.  As before, there will be a live preview each time on the Friday evening from 4-8 p.m. and all day Sat. until the auction begins.  Check out auctionbytesTV Education Channel for some collecting tips.

Talk to ya later
