Etsy sellers were dismayed when they had trouble finding their item descriptions on Thursday on their product pages, though they reappeared for some sellers on Saturday. Some sellers thought it was a test and referred back to other incidents when Etsy had moved descriptions and then returned them to their usual spot on the page.
In one post on the Etsy discussion boards titled, "
My descriptions have disappeared," a seller wrote: "My descriptions have vanished - they are nowhere on the page. Just a huge white space. Is it just me? I do have another Etsy shop that is fine, and when I search for and open one of my OomiZoomi shop listings from that browser, there is no description that route either. Is it only a glitch?"
The seller later edited the post to add, "omg I found the details arrow under the big pic."
In another post on Thursday titled, "
Listing Descriptions Missing," an Etsy seller wrote: "I just noticed that the listing descriptions are missing on each item page in my shop. I checked other shops and their listings are missing also. Is an update happening or is this a glitch? Thanks for looking into it."
In a reply on Saturday, a seller wrote, "You know what's crazy about this; we as Sellers know about tests coming and going. And WE have difficulty finding the Description. I can only imagine what Buyers think from day to day, it's over here one day and gone the next. For me, I'm back in this test. Description is on the Left, under photo. But you have to click the arrow to see Item Details. Click AGAIN to See More. Also have to click a separate Tab to see Shipping and Policies (on the Left as well)."
As we wrote
in July when sellers reported Etsy had moved the description down the page, sellers fear one of two consequences from changes such as these: either the shopper won't purchase the item because they can't find the description, or the shopper purchases the item without having read the description and files a not as described claim once they receive it.
Sellers said they were upset that Etsy made their product descriptions harder to find during the all-important holiday shopping season. "Hate it, especially in December," wrote one seller. "Really- in December?" wrote another.
"Remember back when they said they wouldn't run tests or make changes during the holiday buying season," another seller wrote. "So much for their word. It can just about be predicted with assurance that when we should be having periods of good sales, they are going to do something to mess things up then."
