We've heard from readers who are furious about the new feature, which we could see for ourselves in listings we found when searching for items directly on Etsy or through Google.
One seller who has operated two shops on Etsy for the past 10 years wrote, "Etsy is deliberately directing our traffic to other shops! How can they get away with this?? We PAY for those listings not to mention advertising that I pay for that's very expensive. Now they are using MY money to send buyers to other shops."
Another described the issue and said, "This is so like eBay it should not surprise anyone... race to the bottom of resellers with lowest prices. barf."
We found that when we clicked on one of the options in a listing, Etsy didn't open a new tab - it took us out of the listing to a search results page showing listings from other sellers.
There appear to be unintended consequences already - one seller who was commenting on a
thread on the Etsy boards said they planned to change their tags to try to foil the feature. But that could hurt the visibility of their listings in search.
Another seller pointed out what should be obvious to Etsy management: "at some point, endless choices are no longer fun for buyers."
There are lots of other reasons sellers might object to the new feature, including the fact Etsy does not seem to have announced it before rolling it out, and the timing - just as people are trying to get a jump on holiday shopping.
Let us know what you think of the feature overall, and the specific price and date options Etsy is displaying.
