What Do You Think of the New eBay Store Changes?

By: Ina Steiner

eBay began tinkering with its Store offering on Tuesday, leaving sellers scrambling to figure out what was changing and struggling to find a link to their quarterly shipping-supplies coupon. ("It's under the marketing tab now. Not under manage store anymore," sellers discovered.)

The topic also came up during Wednesday's weekly chat session, with one participant asking if eBay was going to announce the change so sellers wouldn't have to guess about what exactly was changing. They also asked if a member of the eBay Stores team could participate in a weekly chat to provide information and answer questions.

"Will eBay announce and explain the changes to stores, and if so, when," a seller asked. "As a store subscriber, paying for a service, I'd appreciate better communication. Or, hey, any communication..."

A moderator thanked the seller for the feedback and said, "I haven't received any updates on communication plans for stores/seller hub changes, but this is something I can pass on to the correct team to review."

Sellers also noticed that the newsletter feature had changed - eBay allows sellers with Stores to create and send email campaigns to buyers who've signed up to receive newsletters from their store.

"This might be good," one seller wrote of the change, "but I can't really tell since I can't seem to view the newsletter I created." They also noted certain functions had been removed from Manage My Store.

This is another case of eBay making changes outside of its semi-annual Seller Updates that are supposed to give sellers timely notice of changes. What changes to Stores have you noticed, and which ones are helpful or unhelpful?

No matter what I am looking for at eBay, I go straight to Google and ask where to find it.  Some things I seldom go to get moved and I don't know it so I just Google it. The never ending changes are completely unnecessary. Find other jobs for your new hires, please.

……. So the morons have come back to the office - and the havoc and stupidity restarts!

Imagine if you leased a store in a mall and your landlord treated YOU this way!

I never had a store. But in the last couple of years, many sellers that do have a store, have closed them. That is telling..

Forcing sellers to spend more time figuring out the surprise changes hoping they won't notice the rapidly declining sales and off the rails search engine.

I have been saying this for awhile, and will continue until the last day of eBay.

They can do, change. tweak, charge whatever they want. None of it matters unless there are buyers on the site. Declining traffic and sales is where eBay's efforts should be focused. Everything else is window dressing.

If it does not attract a buyer, they should leave it alone. We can make the sales; they need to bring the buyers.

I can tell everyone first hand that when I told eBay what I thought of the changes I got an invitation to a zoom meeting which I accepted.  The meeting lasted for an hour.  The person who hosted the meeting is the eBay person that is responsible for the store categories.  Every time I told them what they should have done they commented by saying "We didn't think of that".  eBay cannot have people responsible for these tasks if they have no experience selling on line.

“ Every time I told them what they should have done they commented by saying "We didn't think of that".”

Arrogant ignorance. It’s endemic to eBay. They have labeled their users - the customers who pay their bloated salaries for this incompetence - as “noise”. They have stated that “for this kind of technology, users don’t know what they want”. Not only do they not think, they don’t bother to ask. The fact they seem to give lip service to even garner opinion ‘after the fact’ is frankly astonishing. Pablum for the masses perhaps.

Regardless, every change, enhancement, unnecessary ‘tweak’, twerk and tailoring, is all conceived in their special “team” hermetically sealed chambers somewhere, then, untested, unproven, more often than not unannounced, it is unleashed like some eCom Kraken to wreak havoc on an unsuspecting populace.

And why? Because they simply didn’t “think” first. Or if they did, it was only for their own benefit, at your expense. That’s today’s eBay.

"We didn't think of that" ... the slogan that SHOULD BE on the front/back of every shirt worn in San Jose.

Rehiring goofballs that did a cr@p job the first time - bringing them back for "round 2", does not equal "hiring people who know commerce, or ecommerce ".

If things were so great @ eBay first time round - why leave? if they were so bad at Walmart - why go there?, if things were so bad at eBay round 2 - why go back there? (answer: MONEY)(yours and mine)

eBay has %50 too many employees - and the remainder are C+ quality at best. What are they doing? Hiring bums off the street at $10/hr ?

Why cant the self described "worlds best technology co" have even B level customer service? Why cant they actually HELP sellers instead of just quoting chapter & verse?

Why are the insane perks and Walkers West more important then ripping off sellers?

Where has that IDIOT GRIFFTER been all these past few years? Wheres his CRACK TEAM of Charlie Chaplinesque "Seller Protection" goofballs at least attempting to help anyone?

The silly changes to the store layout etc are all just window dressing.

If you take care of your sellers, they will take care of YOU. If you harass them, steal from them, abuse them, force them into things they dont want OR need - they will make off site sales, take their cream goods elsewhere, go to other sites or just leave.

Smart people know this, dumb people do not.

Work smarter not harder isnt an eBay philosophy - this move accomplishes nothing.

Changes to stores without advance notice can only mean one thing.... Get ready for the next store fee increase!

When it comes, just grab your ankles and repeat " Thank you sir, may I have another?"
