Is Etsy Testing New Listing Page Designs?

By: Ina Steiner

A seller reported that Etsy is testing the design of the listing page. In a post this morning titled, "Bottom of a listing has changed...again. WHY?" a seller wrote the following:

"Why is Etsy changing the look at the bottom of the actual listing...again? Why do they have to keep making changes there?

"It looks horrible and I have seen two different versions in the past two days.

"Both versions look bad. It is going to direct customers out of our shops even more now.

"It seems Etsy needs to spend more time on areas that really need to be fixed instead of trying to mess up our listings with shops right next to the listings of our own shop. It does not distinguish our shop items as well as it did before.

"There were plenty of other seller's items at the bottom of our listings already, so why is Etsy is spending their time on this instead of things that really need to be fixed?"

(Note that we inserted paragraph breaks above to make it easier to read.)

It appears Etsy is adding more competing items at the bottom of the page.

One seller defended marketplaces' decision to show similar items to shoppers. "It’s kind of like the cereal aisle at the grocery store; all the different brands in one place. Etsy wants the customer to buy something so they will show them similar listings. Amazon does the same thing. It encourages sellers to create A+ listings. What looks bad to one seller another seller will like the new feature. One thing for sure is Etsy will always make changes to their platform."

But another seller said customers don't always realize that listings at the bottom of a seller's listing are sold by others. "I've shared an item on Facebook, only to have someone say, I just bought your Pink Elephant!! I'm thinking, I don't have a pink elephant. I don't like this either. My Facebook friend thought she was helping me and purchased from another shop. She wasn't happy."

Another issue is the timing of the testing. While marketplaces don't always listen, sellers have long voiced their opinion that the holiday shopping season is not the time to run experiments on the site since it's the busiest time of the year for many sellers.

Are you seeing different versions of the listing page? What changes would you make to the listing page?

Yes they did.

WOW!
Is what I would say if I didn't think that Etsy was trying to copy ebay, who wants to copy amazon.

Ebay wannabe's, they are an insult when it comes to business.
Just like ebay.  The shame is that they are proud to call themselves that.

Not surprised in the least as none of these copycats have absolutely ANY innovative ideas to promote real sales.

It's true that they are hijacking my items to promote another's.
If they wish to list under MY listings, then some compensation should be appropriate.  Isn't that how they assume the ads program for themselves?
Didn't I just bring traffic to another sellers shop?

I was even blacklisted from having any sales this month. (we all know the cowardly game etsy likes to play when you're no longer welcome)

After reading this post, I opened my page to see for myself what was going on.
While I don't mind cross promotion, some heads up and maybe gratuity should be in order.

I am just tired of the games, and no one has time to chase them down for their underperformance. (glitches, non-payment, double charging, sale cancellation charges, no support, throttling, asinine suggestions, etc. etc.)
Once my listings expire, I'm out.
No more back and forth with these idiots and their adolescent excuses.
If I were in charge, I would fire everyone and shut down this disgraceful imitation of a business.
The world is much dirtier with the likes of this trash in operation. The lazy employees who know nothing, and the management clones from the idiot factory pretending to be progressive just to steal more money.

Can these charlatans even toast bread?
Or do their mommies and daddies give that to them too?

I didn't know this was happening.  I'm really angry. I'm about finished with ETSY.  I can see how this change might be good for casual buyers who want to see if there's something better/cheaper, and good for ETSY to get more money.  Sellers are dispensable now...  I've had my shops on ETsy for 8 years and I'm one of the older ones...that tells you something about how ETSY treats its sellers....we don't stay long... and it doesn't matter to ETSY because there are always new sellers... doesn't matter what they sell... whether it's original or factory made or authentic vintage... just so there's something for sale with ''free shipping'', and lots of sellers on the books so the company looks strong and vibrant and valuable to investors.
It's been all downhill  since etsy went public., but this an old story already.. I  get tired of talking about it, folks get tired of hearing about it... and nothings going to change. It used to be fun selling on ETSY.. it isn't anymore.

Other shop's ads on the bottom of your listing page is JUST WRONG.

This isn’t anything new, other market places do this and have for some time.  Their goal is to have buyers buy from anyone on the site, but really how many buyers scroll all the way to the bottom?  Many barely read descriptions.  Another thing to think about, your items show up in other shops too.

different people see different things....at the bottom of my listings it has a huge pinkish square box...on one side it says see more from this shop and right beside it says you may also like....the problem is you think you may still be in this store when you click on see more items. The button navigates you away from the store...Some sellers do not have this and frankly, if they are going to potentially take business away from me in this fashion, then they should do it to all sellers not just some.
