eBay Grants Immunity to Sellers in Guaranteed Delivery Program

By: Ina Steiner

Sponsored Link

eBay is offering sellers an incentive to try its new Guaranteed Delivery program that lets shoppers filter listings by those that can be delivered in 3 days, guaranteed - though the program remains gated.

Through June 30th, eBay will protect sellers even if their items don't make it to the buyer on time due to missed handling time or because the carrier scans the package late.

eBay also recently lifted the restriction that sellers use its own shipping label program in order to opt in to the Guaranteed Delivery program.

One seller reacted to today's news by pointing out eBay is still keeping it a gated program. "I echo the question of how to get in," the seller wrote. "Seems like you are sweetening the pot...but some of us have never been allowed in, despite signing up first time it was announced."

A moderator noted, "We're working toward opening up the program to more sellers in the coming months, and will email sellers when it's time to opt in.

eBay also pointed out the program's bulk editing tool. "It shows you which of your listings aren't yet guaranteed, and how to update them. Use the "Updates" filter on the left to see which listings aren't meeting specific program requirements, then update them in bulk."

You can read the announcement and seller reaction in today's Weekly Chat.

Keep It Simple, Stupid! Forget the bells, whistles and the ebay-income-generating devices, and get some buyers coming to the site. Providing buyers is the only job that ebay has vis-a-vis its sellers. KISS-KISS, Geoff.

"because the carrier scans the package late." and you should add or never scans it at all. This is a big problem and ebay nor sellers can do anything about it. So opting into the program and being protected until June sounds nice, but what about after June? Its not our fault that the mailmen don't always scan the packages. The PO shut down plants, cut back the workers, forced older workers with benefits out so they could hire lazy by the hour kids to do the job. Then they don't do their job and we get screwed when we ship on time. And ebay has a bright idea to go out and put guarantees on things that are out of their control. SMH

I think I have finally understood eBay's APRIL FOOL's JOKE on all their SELLERS.    3 Day Guaranteed Delivery DOUBLES as an I.Q. test at the same time.   How is it an intelligence test?  Because if you DO OPT IN.... you've FAILED the TEST.   Booby Prize for failing this test is that NOW your Name is automatically moved to the head of the list for New Hires in the Customer (dis)-Service department.  FUBAR ...  I've said it several times, but a GOOD WAY to evaluate how ''well'' this 3-Day Guaranteed delivery is nonsense is being embraced (or NOT) by SELLERS is to pick some SEARCH term where even  the BROKEN SEARCH engine will return at least 100 ''matches''.  Step Two... FLIP the SORT IN switch to ON to see how many (few) results remain.  How many times are they going to FLOG THIS DEAD HORSE before they GET the MESSAGE and leave this ROADKILL idea where it lays?

Hoops, hoops and more hoops to jump through, and scheme after scheme after scheme.  Doing business on eBay has become so incredibly convoluted. "Guaranteed delivery" is just as much of a myth as "free shipping". DSRS, Defects, TSR Hoops, Shipping Hoops.....

No!  No!  No!   Get into your hoopty hoop and just drive away.  The return on the time that most of invest in eBay has become so abysmal, so why bother.  My time is better spent on other sites, where I can grow my sales and I don't deal with the constant manipulation.

Moreover, eBay have become nothing more than a database of listings that eBay uses to sell advertising to third parties.  They put the interest of their 3rd party and enterprise sellers ahead of the interests of small sellers years ago.

Had a message from a buyer yesterday saying "I really hope I do get this in three days!!!".

I responded that I was shipping that day, but, I made no guarantees to as delivery date. Anything on the page stating delivery times was from EBAY. Once the PO gets it I have no control. Based on past experience the package "should" be there in three, but, I did not guarantee it.

Probably need to save that verbiage for a cut & paste going forward.

What happens when everyone opts in. Then there is no advantage. Or if you sell unique items there would be no advantage anyway.

I opted out even though I was invited. I had a customer request I hold 3 items which were paid for separately until then returned from vacation. No problem but if I had opted in I would have lost 30% of my revenue in 3 separate penalties. I was still taking a hit to my stats but I could absorb it. I am a TRS.

Yikes,
I have not opted in, I guess if you did not sell event / holiday mdse, it could work for you. For me, I think it would be a huge scam to play on my buyers as they need something for a birthday or holiday and ebay tells them some BS. They already take the normal wording as truth or guarantee...I can only imagine the hell that would reign down on me if I tried this.
Not to mention the other reason that I do not want to do it....all other returns are auto approved that are not to do with the shipping. So while ebay is handling the delivery issue, they are also handling the returns approval for other items. If they changed it, I don't know but that is what they said in the webinar I attended and is a great reason for me not to do it.

Ive been on their wait list since early last fall.  What is the point of promoting a program they only allow a small % of sellers in?

I'm top rated, 1 day handling, 0% late ship, 100% pos feedback.  I pay for a premium store.

Ebay is only further irritating the rest of us when they keep coming up with new ideas that they dont allow half of us to try.

We are not top rated ( carrot jumping ), Less than 0.01 percent late shipping, 99.5 feedback and 5 day handling. All our stores are anchors. Ebay sends us daily messages on how great it would be to be in the program. As of monday this week they have resorted to calling us at home everyday.

STOP STOP STOP THE MADNESS WE DON'T WANT TO JOIN ANOTHER USELESS PROGRAM.

I know this program is supposed to be gated, but why would eBay be offering immunity unless they weren't getting the number of participants they wanted?

They only called me about this once. I explained how I felt about the probability of angry buyers and have not heard from them again on this issue.
If your party is on Friday and you don't get your item until Saturday, 5.00 is not going to make you happy with ebay or the seller and you may believe both mislead you.

Speaking of gating iheartjacksparrow, I think the only reason that eBay have not gated categories is because A) they like the fees and 2) they need lots of listings on the site in order to sell 3rd party ads.  If they can WOW the advertisers with information that make it appear that eBay is a bustling ecommerce site they can sell visibility to 3rd parties while simultaneously taking it away from their sellers.

If some would spend a little more time getting more familiar with the rules for this program, I don't think they would be so vocal against it.  The handling time option can be a very useful tool for sellers that are and maintain their TRS status.  They would not have to do any additional steps to be able to take advantage of the program when it is opened enough to allow more sellers in.

The D2D [door to door] option in this program just is not a viable option for small or medium sellers.  It is meant more for very large and/or mega sellers.

''If some would spend a little more time getting more familiar with the rules for this program, I don't think they would be so vocal against it.''

More pesky noise from the ignorant hoi polloi?  Or might it be that the hue and cry actually reflects just how much this yet another eBay 'program' actually IS understood - the eBayness of it all.

Forget that eBay rakes a tax on a a critical and non-optional eCommerce element over which they have no involvement.  Forget that they are claiming to guarantee what they can not control.

One only need consider that eBay's offer to immunize only certain sellers from what they have therein tacitly admitted to be undeserved blame and yet, with denial of same to all, will now WILLINGLY continue to sanction others for it, removes all pretense of defense by denial of facts.

Even more heinous?  Their condescending response when questioned about it - how 'hard' they must be working to reengineer all the much harder work it was to design a specifically exclusionary process that should have innoculated the whole population in the first place.

So yes, seems everyone 'gets it'.

Capice?

@snapped

You really have some nerve.  We all have opinions and the right to voice them, but for some reason you are of the opinion that if someone doesn't fit into your view on things it is somehow OK to call the "ignorant common people", which is he translation of what you posted.

I don't mind being called "hoi polloi" or common folk, as unlike you, I see common people in a different light obviously.  But because I may be "common" does Not make me "ignorant".   I don't seek or have any need for your approval on anything I post.  Personal attacks are completely unnecessary and unwarranted.

Apparently you didn't ''capice' then, Marie.  That wasn't directed at you, nor was it intended to be derisive of you, or in any way represent a personal attack.

Please reread the first sentence of the reply again as if it were questioning the comment quoted for context only, itself, instead of questioning you or your 'rights' personally.

The reference to 'ignorance' was for that which appeared to be directed at those who would (according to some opinion), be less likely to 'object' - if only they were ''...more familiar with the rules.''

AKA, (according to eBay opinion), ''noise''.  From the masses.  Much bigger than any one of us.

And according to MY opinion in this context, any 'noise' made in context of this thread, from those poorly uneducated thus more likely to object for that reason only, as apparently opinioned (no matter WHO thinks so), does indeed have merit, independent of ''program knowledge'', for the reasons I (and others in their own fashion) stated.

FWIW, I wholly agree personal attacks have no place or purpose in this type forum.  That's a tactic for those who have no better argument.

Hope that makes mine clearer.  Now and in the future.  26 letters and two hands-full of digits with no other interpersonal nuance can be a challenging enough tool set to use to make a cogent counter-point to be sure, but it can be done without all the drama.

THAT is the intent anyway.
