eBay is holding a seller promotion tomorrow. Here's the announcement, posted November 24th, 2009 at 4:01 pm PST:

Tomorrow, November 25, one day only, Insertion Fees for your Auction-style items will be 50% off on http://www.ebay.com/, http://www.motors.ebay.com/ (Parts & Accessories only) and http://www.ebay.ca/, regardless of your start price. Most categories are included, please check out our information page for full details. Also, we recommend using the 5 day listing duration in order to capture the large buying audience of "cyber Monday" which is one of the busiest e-commerce shopping days of the year.

We hope you enjoy this promotion, and we wish you a safe, Happy Thanksgiving!

Note that tomorrow is the day before Thanksgiving, the busiest travel day of the year in the U.S.

eBay was originally planning a 3-day promotion from November 23 - 25 and had sent out emails to sellers. That email was followed by an email that stated, "There was a promotion planned for this coming week that was cancelled. There are currently no plans for a 50% off Insertion Fee Promotion on the dates mentioned in the prior email. Please note that any listings created during these dates will be subject to normal Insertion Fees. We apologize for any confusion that this may have caused."

The company likely canceled the original promotion due to the search outage over the weekend. Apparently they are now confident that their system can take a 1-day listing surge without bringing down search/browse functionality.

Ebay has free listing days every day.

However, it's class warfare kind of thing.

If you're a Diamond, listing is free. If you're Noise, listing is not free.

Simple and easy to remember.

They were for it, before they were against it-just like politics.

It would have been very nice if ebay sent me an email concerning this promotion, but they did not :(. I could have used Channel Advisor and posted over 1000 auctions if I new about this promotion, however ebay was negligent on keep me as a seller informed.

The Black Friday results are in as at 12.42 EST;

Sales on ebay last 24 hours with over 1000 active listings = US$46.00 Traffic down 50% from yesterday

Sales on Amazon last 24 hours with same product line = $3000.00 Traffic up 200%

Whats going on here??????
