Long time readers will remember the notorious hacker Vladuz, the only hacker eBay has ever acknowledged to breaching servers. According to the Agence France Presse, a Romanian court handed a three-year suspended sentence to Vlad Duiculescu for "fraudulently and repeatedly" accessing eBay's accounts from 2005-2007, causing the company losses estimated at two million dollars.
The hacker calling himself "Vladuz" had harassed eBay with his public taunting from December 2006 through October 2007, when he accessed eBay servers and gained limited access to a very small number of eBay accounts on the eBay.com site. (eBay said at the time that at no point did the fraudster get any access to financial information or other sensitive information.).
Vladuz had been able to post messages on eBay discussion boards using the pink designation reserved for eBay employees, and at one point eBay closed its Trust & Safety discussion board for hours after threads began appearing listing the names and addresses of eBay members.
The same year, some members who had been publicly critical of Vladuz claimed he had briefly locked them out of eBay and had sent them an email to prove it.
According to the AFP report, prosecutors said the 23-year old Duiculescu was the hacker known as Vladuz and had spent nearly two years in prison awaiting trial before being released in January 2010. The Romanian court handed down the suspended sentence on Wednesday.
