Fastest-growing fashion marketplace welcomes seasoned leader with deep experience managing P2P marketplaces and building online communities
MENLO PARK, Calif. – Poshmark, the fastest-growing mobile marketplace for buying and selling women’s fashion, announced today the hiring of John McDonald, formerly Ning GM at Glam Media and Senior Director of Seller Experience at eBay. He brings over twenty years of leadership and expertise in marketplace management to Poshmark’s thriving community, where he will focus on scaling user experience and enhancing trust and safety in his new role of Vice President of Marketplace Operations.
Mr. McDonald has held general management, marketing and business operations roles to aid startups and Fortune 500 companies alike in launching new products and repositioning declining ones. At Ning, a platform that has enabled more than two million social innovators to build online communities and social networks, McDonald managed a team across engineering, product, marketing, sales, design services and support.
Prior to Ning, McDonald spent eight years at eBay in several senior roles, including Director of Category Management, Senior Director of U.S. Trust and Safety, and Senior Director of Seller Experience. At eBay, he built new merchandise categories and improved the buying experience through seller incentives and penalties.
“John brings a unique combination of marketplace and community expertise to Poshmark,” said Poshmark CEO and founder Manish Chandra. “As we continue to scale, our buyer and seller experience will always be central to who we are and what we do; we believe that John brings the ultimate background of knowledge and application to our team.”
As Poshmark’s community continues to grow with Android having just launched, over $1M dollars worth of inventory uploaded into the mobile marketplace each day, and over 1 million items sold in the first nine months of 2013, the utmost importance is placed on maintaining a first class user experience within the marketplace. With deep expertise in community cultivation, peer-to-peer marketplace management, and Internet trust, fraud control and reputation, McDonald will bring his penchant for driving adoption of new technology to Poshmark, where he will focus on improving functionality and security for the commerce experience.
“I am thrilled to join the innovative and highly skilled team at Poshmark as we continue to pioneer the future of mobile shopping,” said McDonald. “Together, we aim to deliver a consistently amazing buyer and selling experience for the millions of women in the Poshmark community.”
