eBay Australia said the reason for the change was the Australia Post postal rate changes that took effect on April 2, 2012. "To ensure sellers are able to remain competitive, eBay has today updated relevant postage caps to reflect Australia Post's changes," the company said in its announcement. The postage cap changes are as follows:
eBay said the reason for having postage caps in the first place was because "there are cases where some sellers have been charging too much for postage which has resulted in the perception that postage costs are expensive on eBay. eBay sets limits on what sellers can charge for shipping and handling fees to buyers in certain categories. On Monday, eBay Australia raised some of those caps and removed shipping & handling caps altogether in the Books and Magazines category.
