Mobile operators, vendors and developers are meeting in Barcelona, Spain, next week at the Mobile World Congress meeting, where mobile commerce, payments, advertising and consumer behavior are on the agenda.
Google VP of Payments Osama Bedier will join PayPal VP of Mobile David Marcus along with executives from Visa, Payfone, Gemalto and Consult Hyperion on a panel called, "Mobile Money: Delivering Innovative Mobile Payment Services."
Executives from Groupon, Mastercard, Taco Bell, Scanbuy, Brightstar, Informa Telecoms & Media will speak on a panel about the latest trends in mobile commerce in a session called "Mobilising the Retail Business":
"By leveraging on better knowledge of consumer behaviour, demographics and context, retailers are developing more attractive ways to improve the overall shopping experience, all the way from inventory management - one of the most important secrets of the trade - to mobile payments and transactions and it seems that the smartphone revolution has just started to redefine the retail business."
eBay CEO John Donahoe will join Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn and the CEOs of IPG and CCS Insight in a keynote entitled, "The Connected Consumer" to discuss how stakeholders from different elements of the broad mobile ecosystem can work together to deliver the services that will match the technological innovations taking place in the consumer electronics space today:
"With so many consumers connected to multiple devices, content providers, advertisers and brands are experiencing an unprecedented access to end users, but the fragmented and personal nature of the mobile Internet poses a challenge to these players as they plan which engagement channels, strategies and business models will drive growth and justify investment in the digital space." "
And executives from InsightExpress, ESPN, InMobi, Ogilvy Group UK, Orange, Unilever and Velti will speak on a panel called "Mobile in the Marketing Mix - Does Having an App Count?" about how mobile should fit into a brand's cross-platform marketing strategy and its potential to create a short term splash versus building and supporting long-term consumer engagement.
The agenda and more information is available on the Mobile World Congress website.
