Amazon.com is enticing last-minute holiday shoppers by promising them free 2-day shipping on all of its Kindle readers, and is promoting Kindle ebooks as holiday presents as well - no Kindle required.

Customers who order a Kindle by 8 pm PT on December 21 will receive free two-day shipping on the $79 Kindle, $99 Kindle Touch, $149 Kindle Touch 3G and $199 Kindle Fire to any address in the continental U.S.

Amazon said the new Kindle Fire, priced at $199, has been the number-one bestselling item on Amazon.com for 12 weeks running. It's different from the traditional Kindle ebook reader in that it allows users to watch movies, listen to music, download apps, play games, read books and magazines and surf the web.

Amazon allows customers to give Kindle books as gifts this holiday season - with Kindle, customers can choose a specific date for their ebook gift to be delivered so the gift isn't delivered before they want it to be. Customers can give Kindle books as gifts to anyone with an email address - no Kindle required. Kindle books can be read on Kindle devices and free Kindle reading apps for Android, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Mac, PC, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, or in web browsers with Kindle Cloud Reader.
